OPERA America is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2020 Discovery Grants from the Opera Grants for Female Composers program.

The more things change - the more they stay the same. L.A.'s Latino Theater Company explores the political and cultural climate in 2020 with an eclectic season of productions that looks back at our history and ahead to our future: revivals that reflect the company's past work and the tumultuous fight for Chicano civil rights; contemporary work that explores today's issues; and unique offerings by two guest artists from Spain. In addition, the company will present two free film series, the company's annual free play reading series, and, in December, for the 18th consecutive year, the beloved site-specific holiday pageant La Virgen de Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin at L.A.'s Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. All performances and screenings, except La Virgen, take place at The Los Angeles Theatre Center, a five-theater complex located in a landmark building in Downtown's Historic Core.

The Consulate General of France in New York, The World Jewish Congress (WJC), and the Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme in Paris (MahJ) present Jewish Survival and Rescue in Occupied France, on the evenings of March 4 & 5 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Manhattan (36 Battery Pl, New York, NY 10280). This two-day symposium features lectures and panel discussions by eminent historians, sociologists, and survivors, including Pierre Sauvage, whose newly remastered documentary Weapons of the Spirit will conclude the event. Jewish Survival and Rescue in Occupied France is a highlight of France and Judaism: 2,000 Years of Intertwined History, a series of conferences and lectures organized by the Consulate in partnership with the WJC, curated by MahJ Director Paul Salmona, and held at various New York City venues.

For its first production of Vincenzo Bellini's 1831 masterwork, NORMA, in nearly 40 years, Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) brings back the international star it introduced to the U.S. just over two years ago. Elena Stikhina makes her debut in one of opera's most technically demanding roles a?' a powerful Druid priestess whose affair with the general of a warring Roman faction brings personal grief and despair. The Russian-born soprano made her American debut in BLO's 2017 production of Tosca. Her subsequent national and international acclaim includes a lauded 2018 Metropolitan Opera debut in Puccini's Il Trittico. Best known for its star-making aria a?oeCasta Diva,a?? Vineyard Theatre's Artistic Directors Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern and Managing Director Suzanne Appel announce that the company's 2020 Gala fundraiser will celebrate Tony Award-winning producer Daryl Roth and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel. The annual benefit Gala will take place on Monday, April 20, 2020, beginning at 6:00pm at 583 Park Avenue. Vineyard Theatre Board Member Sally Horchow will chair the event.

For the fifth year, THROUGH HER LENS: The Tribeca CHANEL Women's Filmmaker Program will create new opportunities for women filmmakers.
