An AEA 29-hour industry reading of LAS HIJAS DE LA SANTA MUERTE will take place in New York City. The play explores devotion to Santa Muerte through a border-set narrative examining faith, identity, and institutional power.

Theater is vulnerability. You might see am actors on the stage think about their talent, their confidence, or their dedication, but all of that stems from vulnerability. You could of be the best actor in the world, but if you can't allow yourself to be vulnerable on the stage, the you'll always hold yourself back. Nothing was held back in Brookfield Theatre of the Arts‘ production of M. Butterfy by David Henry Hwang.

When David Henry Hwang’s 1988 play M. Butterfly premiered at the National Theater in Washington D.C. and then produced on Broadway, it was truly visionary, compelling, thought-provoking, and outright shocking. Revised in 2017 to incorporate information that was released after the original play was produced, more people’s acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community, and China’s growth as a superpower.

Magic mirrors, an evil stepmother, forest creatures who sing and chatter prettily- all familiar fairytale tropes – but then add an empowered maiden, a narcissistic prince, and seven “dwarfs,” who are actually icons of ancient wisdom and culture, and you have a new, delightful musical version of the Brothers’ Grimm tale of Snow White created by Marc Robin & Curt Dale Clark for audiences young and young at heart.  MSMT’s new production sparkles with wit, energy, and visual splendor, featuring a first-rate cast of young professional performers who bring this tale to life with new meaning.

PCPA – Pacific Conservatory Theatre has revealed its 62nd season, offering a vibrant mix of musicals, plays, and new works that promise to delight audiences of all ages. What did our critic think of OMK SANMARE'S ARAH PULANG IS A HEARTWARMING AND CONTEMPORARY CHRISTMAS STORY at OMK Santa Maria Regina?

On Sunday, November 10th, I had the pleasure of seeing yet another first-rate production put on by Fairfield Center Stage at Wakeman Hall inside First Church Congregational of Fairfield at 148 Beach Rd.  OLIVER!, the musical, based on the Charles Dickens book Oliver Twist, adapted for stage by Lionel Bart. is an exciting production that the entire family can enjoy!  Director/Choreographer Todd Santa Maria, Music Director Eli Newsom, and Children’s Chorus Director Elissa Ranney combine their talents to help bring out the best in this amazing cast!  A talented eight piece live band enhances the production!  When I was in the fourth grade, I had an ensemble role in this show, but have not seen it on stage, since.  Seeing it performed by Fairfield Center Stage brought back the childhood memories of one of the greatest shows for a young cast that has ever been written!

Fairfield Center Stage has announced the presentation of OLIVER, featuring a cast of 40 local performers and a live band, running November 8-17, 2024, at Wakeman Hall in Fairfield, CT.

On Saturday, July 27th, I had the pleasure of seeing SPRING AWAKENING as put on by the Castle Craig Players at the Almira F. Stephan Memorial Playhouse in Meriden, CT. The stellar acting, singing, lighting, and choreography draws the audience right in.  The talented vocalists and skilled musicians combine to create the melancholy and ominous feel behind the music written by Duncan Sheik, with book and lyrics by Steven Slater, setting the tone of the story in a way that captivates the audience and reveals the deep and dark feelings of the characters. The song, 'I Believe,' a full ensemble number at the end of the first act showcases particularly strong harmonies.  Director Oliver Kochol, musical director Jill Brunelle, and choreographer Todd Santa Maria combine their skills to help bring out the best in this highly talented cast.

Castle Craig Players' production of Spring Awakening is set to take the stage July 26 through August 11 at the groups intimate Meriden venue! See photos of the cast.

PCPA has announced the lineup for its Summer Season 60, from June 13th through September 8th, 2024, at Solvang Festival Theater and Marian Theatre in Santa Maria.

On Friday, May 3rd, I had the pleasure of seeing yet another first-rate production by the Castle Craig Players at the Almira F. Stephan Memorial Playhouse in Meriden, CT! This stellar cast keeps the audience entertained with their excellent stage presence, stage chemistry, and positive energy, as this intriguing story unfolds, THE 39 STEPS. Director Todd Santa Maria helps bring out the best in this phenomenal cast featuring Matthew Griffiths, Angelina D’Albero, Matt Monitto, and Gabriel Sousa. I was not previously familiar with this show, but seeing it performed by this cast, I feel as if they elevated it to heights that were never reached before! This casts’ delivery, mannerisms, and comedic timing shine through in ways far superior to that which could be detailed or explained in a script. The constant laughter and applause from this lively packed house strongly suggests that the rest of the audience tremendously enjoyed this show, as I did!

The program of the 23rd edition of the celebrated Flamenco Festival New York features Antonia Jiménez, one of the most important names among Spanish female guitarists and composers, and Inma La Carbonera, a soulful vocalist from Seville in a rare New York appearance.
