After 40 years of leadership, Jatinder Verma is stepping down as artistic director of Tara Arts in January. After its conception in 1977, he's turned his company from a community project to a prominent presence on the British theatre scene. In recent years, Tara Arts has also become the first (and so far only) BAME-led company with their own theatre building. We had the pleasure to have a chat with Verma, who summed up his groundbreaking journey and took a look at the state of the industry.

Britain's 'Beat Hotel' Previews New Single 'Feel It'

British indie-rock outfit Beat Hotel has announced that they will be releasing their new eponymous mini-album via Occulation Recordings in the new year. Ahead of that, they are previewing their first single 'Feel It', an upbeat and notably positive song and their first composition in a long time. This is the first taste of the new 6-track offering. Both the single and album will be offered for download, but the full album is also being pressed on 12” vinyl.

She did it twice in her last outing, SHUFFLE ALONG, OR, THE MAKING OF THE MUSICAL SENSATION OF 1921 AND ALL THAT FOLLOWED, playing both the exuberant Gertrude Saunders, whose cutesy singing would be appropriated by the white mainstream as the model for the iconic Betty Boop, and Florence Mills, one of the great singing artists of the early 20th Century.

Roundabout Theatre Company and Columbia University School of the Arts have announced the winners of Columbia@Roundabout's 2019 New Play Reading Series. As part of the collaborative partnership between Roundabout Theatre Company and Columbia University, the reading series awards three playwrights from the current MFA program and recent alumni with a cash prize as well as a reading in Roundabout's Rehearsal Hall, followed by a post-reading reception. Five finalists have also received cash prizes in recognition of their exceptional work. No other collaborative partnership in the New York area brings together an esteemed Ivy League MFA program with a Tony Award-winning, not-for-profit theatre. The reading series is made possible by a grant from The Tow Foundation.
