More than 60 entertainers will perform at the Rose Theater in three themed concerts honoring Mabel Mercer, Sammy Davis Jr., and the American songbook.

The Mabel Mercer Foundation will bring more than 60 performers to Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater for three themed concerts honoring Mabel Mercer, Sammy Davis Jr., and the Great American Songbook.

Second Stage Theater just announced complete casting for the upcoming Broadway premiere of THE FANTASTICKS, directed and  choreographed by Christopher Gattelli.  The company of THE FANTASTICKS will feature Maxim Chlumecky (Appropriate, Harry Potter and the Cursed  Child) as The Boy (Matt), Kevin del Aguila (Some Like It Hot, Frozen) as The Man Who Dies (Mortimer), David  Patrick Kelly (Once, The Warriors) as The Old Actor (Henry), Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer (Spamalot, Beetlejuice) as Matt’s Mother (Mildred Hucklebee), Nathan Levy (& Juliet, Aladdin) as The Boy (Lewis), Ruthie Ann Miles (Sweeney Todd, The King and I) as Lewis’ Mother (Bessie Mae Bellomy), Zane Phillips (“The Comeback,” “Mid Century Modern,” Fire Island) as The Narrator (El Gallo), and Ahmad Simmons (Illinoise, Hadestown) as The  Mute. Mr. Phillips will be making his Broadway debut.  

Birdland Jazz Club and Birdland Theater in New York revealed a monthlong slate of jazz performances, including Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes, Monty Alexander, and the MIKI YAMANAKA TRIO.

I checked in with director Victoria Bussert, for a conversation about her run of Spring Awakening which wrapped March 1st at The Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood, OH. The show was presented in collaboration with the Oberlin College department of Music Theater, in Oberlin, OH, where Bussert is a longtime instructor.

Since she began dancing at just 18 months old, Camille Spence has immersed herself in the craft of movement. Now a graduate of Pace University’s commercial dance program and an accomplished artist, Spence has established herself as a leader in this field. Though few dancers can pursue their passion at the highest level, her ambitions are as boundless as her dedication to the art form.

The show ran for 834 performances at the Ford Center, closing in the final year of the 20th century. It was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, taking home four.
