Rogue Theatre Festival (RTF) returns with a bold and eclectic lineup for their 7th annual celebration of new works. This year, the festival will showcase 37 original plays and musicals, including fully staged productions, short plays, staged readings, and digital streaming performances.

This past season contained a higher than usual amount of Broadway shows involving death; in fact, Operation Mincemeat and Dead Outlaw both specifically revolved around transporting a corpse! And Death Becomes Her leans into the hilarity as two women become gorgeous living corpses before our very eyes, thanks to a touch of magic. But plays and musicals about death and its attendant macabre topics have been a part of the theatre landscape for many decades...

This is a production that falls into the above average category but not yet a 'great' achievement. It tries to do a little too much and falls short in some of the storytelling, despite having a real sense of heart and commitment. A lot of imagination, love and money has gone into this, with great video work and powerful dancing, but the orchestrations didn't work for me.

Today’s subject Carlos Acosta is currently living his theatre Life as the Artistic Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet. He has been in the position since January of 2020. Carlos’ work can be seen at the Kennedy Center in the Opera House from June 4th to the 8th when Birmingham Royal Ballet presents Black Sabbath- The Ballet.

To wrap up another great season Asolo brings us “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Brought to Broadway in 1971 and running through mid-1973, after 711 performances, to mixed review. By 1980 the musical was one of the highest grossing musicals worldwide. It also holds the record for the longest-running West End musical, running over a total of 8 years with 3358 performances.

Last week, legendary rock and roll band, AC/DC played a long-awaited sold out show in Vancouver as part of the North American leg of their POWER UP 2025 concert tour. Marking their first tour in nearly a decade, the iconic Australian band played a setlist filled with some of their most popular songs, reigniting the fire and love for rock and roll in British Columbia. This June an exciting new production of the iconic rock ‘n' roll musical Grease is set to get the Pitlochry Festival Theatre 2025 Auditorium Season off to a classic start when it opens at Scotland's Theatre in the Hills from 18 June until 27 September.

Asolo Repertory Theatre has announced complete casting for the epic closing of the 2024 – 2025 Season, Jesus Christ Superstar, which begins previews on May 14, 2025. Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lyrics by Tim Rice and directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes. Jesus Christ Superstar runs May 14 – June 15.
