ON GOLDEN POND is the love story of Norman and Ethyl Thayer, who are returning for theirforty eighth summer together at their lake home, on Golden Pond. They are visited by their daughter Chelsea, who brings her fiancé, Bill, and his 13 year old son, Billy. The son stays with the Thayers while Chelsea and Bill go to Europe where they get married. Billy soon becomes the “grandson” the Thayers have always wanted, reviving Norman’s youth and teaching him some current teenage slang. The other character is Chairlie, the local man who delivers the mail by boat, and who has always had a crush on Chelsea.

That special place was the inspiration for On Golden Pond, his extraordinarily popular, bittersweet play about love and aging, recrimination and reconciliation. Since its Broadway premiere in 1979, the play has been seen in more than 40 countries, and performed in some 30 languages. The play, with which Soho Rep. reopens its longtime Tribeca theater, dauntlessly cracks jokes as it eviscerates. BWW Review: NUNSENSATIONS at Desert Theatreworks

Nunsense, with book music and lyrics by Dan Goggin, has become quite a cottage industry since its debut off-Broadway in 1985. The original production ran for 3,672 performances, making it the second-longest-running off-Broadway show in history (behind Fantasticks). Since that successful opening, the playwright has concocted six sequels and three spinoffs. A couple of years ago, Desert Theatreworks presented Nunsense: The Mega Musical, one of the spinoffs, which was basically the original five-nun musical expanded to a cast of 17, with a couple of new songs added. They are currently presenting Nunsensations, the fifth of the six sequels. (more...)
