While the large-scale musical tends to receive the most attention from audiences, oftentimes it's the small musicals that speak to us in the most impactful ways. For fans of emotional one act musicals and cult-classic Off-Broadway shows, we're rounding up what we think are some of the best small cast musicals out there!

The New Group has announced that Ephraim Sykes (Ain’t Too Proud, Tony Award nominee; Hamilton) will join the cast of the world premiere production of Black No More.

LOCKDOWN LIVING, a new web series premiering next Monday, November 1st, released a teaser trailer today. The eight episode series follows an ensemble of characters during quarantine in NYC. Westport Country Playhouse has changed the date of “Family Fun Day” to Sunday, October 31, from 11 to 3 p.m., due to inclement weather forecast for October 30, the previously announced date. “Family Fun Day” features activities for kids, treats, food trucks, community food drive, beer tastings, and costume parade for kids and dogs.

Casting has been announced today for the San Francisco production of the Tony-winning production of A Christmas Carol with Broadway veteran Nancy Opel (Ghost of Christmas Past) and award-winning actor, writer, and producer Amber Iman (Ghost of Christmas Present/Mrs. Fezziwig) joining the previously announced Francois Battiste (Ebenezer Scrooge).

The New Group has announced the world premiere of Black No More, a new musical inspired by George S. Schuyler’s 1931 novel of the same name, featuring Book by John Ridley, Music and Lyrics by Tariq Trotter, Choreography by Bill T. Jones, Music Supervision, Orchestrations and Vocal Arrangements by Daryl Waters and Direction by Scott Elliott.

While we were squished on top of each other, as is normal in a theater, I did not see anyone who was not wearing a mask. Everyone seemed to be following the rules and no one made a big fuss about having to wear a mask. Before being let into the theater, every audience member had to show a staff member their vaccination card and photo ID. While this did slow down the process of getting everyone into the theater, it was worth it. I have seen a few live, outdoor shows since the beginning of the pandemic and I do still feel more comfortable seeing a show outside, but I'm not opposed to seeing shows inside.
