Bernard Slade, (born Bernard Slade Newbound), the Canadian/American writer best known for his Broadway play SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR  and the TV series THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY, has died.  He passed away peacefully at home early this morning (October 30) in Beverly Hills from complications of Lewy Body Dementia. He was 89.

Bad Heaven Ltd. is the new project helmed by John Galm. A mainstay of Philadelphia's independent music scene, Galm has been part of many notable bands over the last decade, including Snowing, Street Smart Cyclist, and Slow Warm Death. Fleshed out with Melissa Brain on drums, Ross Brazuk, also from Snowing, on bass and former The World Is A Beautiful Place... guitarist Tyler Bussey on guitar and vocals, Bad Heaven Ltd. crafts a sound that is as tender as it is destructive; as emotionally packed as it is sonically dense.

Brooklyn Film Festival (BFF) announces today the film lineup for its 22nd edition: THE GATHERING. Over the course of the 10-day festival, BFF presents film programs at Wythe Hotel, nearby returning venue Windmill Studios in Greenpoint and five additional screening venues throughout Brooklyn. To open the festival on Friday, May 31st will be the World Premiere of Claudia Myer's Above the Shadows starring Olivia Thirlby, Alan Ritchson, Jim Gaffigan and Megan Fox.

The Michael Chekhov Theatre Festival announces their spring fundraiser to be performed at the Ridgefield Theater Barn on Saturday, April 13 at 7:00 pm. This will be a staged reading of Christopher Durang's 'Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike', the winner of the 2013 Tony Award for BEST PLAY which was inspired by the works of Anton Chekhov. When their movie star sister Masha swoops in with new boy toy Spike, old resentments flare up, and no one is safe from the crossfire. Also on the scene is the sassy maid Cassandra, who can possibly predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness directly threatens the imperious Masha.

The Boston theater community is enriched by the presence of Boston Playwrights' Theatre, founded in 1981 at Boston University by Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott. The BU New Play Initiative is an element of the Boston University College of Fine Arts which fosters a commitment to the School of Theatre's development of new work. Together, BPT and NPI are producing the final entry in the 2018-2019 season of new plays, DEAD HOUSE by Beirut Balutis, a member of the BU M.F.A. Playwriting Program, class of 2019. M.F.A. directing candidate Adam Kassim (THE HONEY TRAP, 2017) returns to BPT to direct this new drama.
