Seeing Nationaltheatret's main show for children before Christmas was a different experience than I had expected. Perhaps because the knowledge and impressions this reviewer has of the original story origins from childhood ears and eyes, maybe it is because the fairytale in itself has such many aspects an depth that the experience is highly different depending on where in life the viewer is. However, this performance is managing the difficult task of reaching and viewers of all ages and make a lasting impression.

Imagine On the Town with a bunch of dick jokes and you'll sort of get a picture of SOMETHING FOR THE BUOYS, a new Canadian musical by Eli Pasic. The show is equal measures charming and raunchy, with a good deal of humour and an excellent - actually, surprisingly, really good - score. Inspired by musical comedies of the 30s and 40s, SOMETHING FOR THE BUOYS follows the adventures of a group of sailors (seamen!) and burlesque dancers as they look for love in the big city.

On Saturday Evening, October 12, 2019, Los Angeles Opera presented Adam Guettel's THE Light In the Piazza. A musical theater work rather than an opera, Piazza provided the audience with a nostalgic excursion to Florence and Rome in the 1950s. For opera star Renée Fleming it was a tour de force as she not only showed onlookers various stages of her character's complete change of heart, but also gave us the glorious high notes and legato singing of opera along with the snappy repartee of musical theater.

Written/performed by Valerie David and directed by Padraic Lillis and Maris Heller, THE PINK HULK is just about to finish its run at the 14th Street Y. Valerie's one-woman show was accepted into 26 different festivals in both the U,S. and Europe over the course of 2 1/2 years, and has received quite a number of great reviews and accolades. Now, THE PINK HULK is something quite special - not only because it is autobiographical and gives a rare opportunity to take part in the performer's life story as she bears all on stage, but because it is not shy of bringing a message of hope to anyone who ever needed someone to just say that things will be ok. And even if life doesn't quite turn out that way, she instills the belief in you that it's always just another obstacle that we have the strength to overcome.

If I was to have to find one flaw in the ROCKY HORROR SHOW, now playing at the Louis Curtiss Studio Building in Kansas City (formerly Prohibition Hall), it is that I only get to review it once this run. Seeing so many shows each year it is seldom that one comes along that makes me want to see it again. AUBERGINE is, like its title, a quirky cross-cultural offering; like eggplant, it won't be to everyone's taste. Irish Heritage Theatre announces its Fall 2019 production Woman and Scarecrow by Marina Carr. The Irish Heritage Theatre's first 'End of Days in Ireland' offering is the aforementioned Woman and Scarecrow, following the last day of the life of the titular character as she wrestles with her inner demons and her alter ego. IHT will follow that up with the classic, Steward of Christendom by Sebastian Barry, a Lear-like exploration of a former officer's final days.
