Flashdance – The Musical arrives in São Paulo, bringing the iconic 1983 film to the stage, following Alex Owens, a young steelworker who dreams of becoming a professional dancer. Starring Marisol Marcondes and Rhener Freitas, the production features a cast of 24 performers, live music, and high-energy choreography. Blending songs in English and Portuguese—including the Oscar-winning “Flashdance… What a Feeling”—the musical captures the spirit of a generation. Audiences can also expect the film’s legendary moments, including the unforgettable chair-and-water dance scene.

BREAKIN' CONVENTION announced its full 2026 line-up for the annual hip-hop theatre festival at Sadler's Wells, running May 1–3, featuring UK and international artists across breaking, popping, Krump, wacking, and contemporary dance.

Written by acclaimed playwright Hannah Khalil, Love Omar is a love letter to theatre set backstage at Chichester Festival Theatre in 1983 when Omar Sharif starred in Terence Rattigan's The Sleeping Prince.  

The year, 1967, the place, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and its central narrative came from the scrawlings of a 16-year-old named Susan Eloise Hinton, and the rest as we know it is solidified into literary history. History so much, that it has sparked a re-birth with a new generation and with the new stage adaptation of Hinton’s subliminal novel, a pandemonium and cultural phenomenon was created.

One of the most effective things the musical gains by moving from page to screen to stage is permission to reframe the story without betraying it. By leaning harder into the Curtis brothers as the emotional spine, the musical clarifies a distinction that’s always been present in the text but rarely foregrounded this explicitly: Darry, Soda, and Ponyboy are family by blood, bound by obligation and grief; while the Greasers are family by choice, bound by loyalty and survival.

Drag culture in La Cage aux Folles isn’t just the “bold face” of the gay community; it’s a celebration of visibility itself, a way of inviting even those on the periphery to understand more deeply what it means to live authentically, unbothered, and unashamed.

Forty years ago, the Fountain Theatre presented the groundbreaking comedy/drama, Last Summer at Bluefish Cove by Jane Chambers, one of the first playwrights to depict love between women as happy, healthy, and well-adjusted. I decided to speak with the play’s director Hannah Wolf about the history and importance of the play, the challenges of presenting it outdoors, how she was selected to direct it, about the characters who make up the story, and why its message of acceptance speaks to the new generation of theater goers just as it did for those who saw Jean Smart in the original 1983-85 Fountain Theatre production.
