Texas Performing Arts will present the international hit musical MAMMA MIA! as part of the Broadway in Austin season at Bass Concert Hall. The production brings the beloved ABBA score and Catherine Johnson’s book back to audiences in a new touring edition.

Silly stories like this work better on stage, where the particulars of the real world aren’t around to underscore implausibility. It’s quite a setup: 20-year-old bride-to-be Sophie has never known a father, but by the time the prologue is over, she has already swiped her mom’s diary, identified three old flames as the could-be dad, invited each of them to a remote Greek island for her upcoming wedding, and concocted an elaborate rouse to keep all of this from her betrothed, her mother, the men, and her mom’s two best friends. The objective: lay eyes on each potential pop for a “vibes check” in hopes of finally IDing her dad.

Mamma Mia! Has been captivating audiences around the world for decades with its lively score based on the iconic and timeless music of ABBA.  Set on a stunning Greek island, this heartwarming and hilarious story follows Sophie, a young bride-to-be, on a quest to discover her father’s identity before her wedding day.

The 25th Anniversary Tour of MAMMA MIA!, the ultimate feel-good show based on the songs of ABBA, will return to San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre for a limited two-week engagement beginning Wednesday, April 30.

MAMMA MIA! is an electrifying and heartwarming musical that never fails to delight audiences, and the national tour I experienced last night was no exception. From start to finish, the production was filled with infectious energy, stunning choreography, and, most importantly, incredible vocal performances.

25 years after its first production, Mamma Mia! the musical is making the rounds with a stop at Milwaukee's own Marcus PAC.
