Review: ANGELS IN AMERICA, PART ONE: MILLENNIUM APPROACHES at Theater West End
by Albert Gutierrez - Jan 18, 2026

While much of the dramatic weight of Angels in America undeniably stems from the specter of AIDS, it would do the play a huge disservice to reduce it to a story about disease alone. What Theater West End makes clear is that Kushner’s work is as much about identity, loss, and the human struggle to reconcile who we are deep down with who we present to the world.

Interview: Steve Hackett of GENESIS GREATS, LAMB HIGHLIGHTS & SOLO WORKS” at Southern Theatre
by Paul Batterson - Sep 21, 2025

Perhaps no one is more surprised Steve Hackett is doing a retrospective on THE LAMB 50 years after the fact than the guitarist himself. THE LAMB was ranked in the top ten of Rolling Stone magazine’s top 50 progressive rock albums of all time. The BBC called it a “conceptual masterpiece.” Hackett has another word for it: an anomaly.

Review: INTO THE WOODS Weaves Timeless Tale in Philippine Setting
by Oliver Oliveros - Aug 20, 2025

Once upon a time, Stephen Sondheim's (music and lyrics) and James Lapine's (book) 1986 musical 'Into the Woods' was written to appeal like a mashup of the Brothers Grimm's fairy tales—thus, the show's commercial allure. But we all knew Sondheim's creative mind was more complex than that; he dared to ask what happens after 'happily ever after.'

Review: STOP MAKING SENSE'S JERRY HARRISON at Southern Theatre
by Paul Batterson - May 6, 2025

Jerry Harrison doesn’t have too many regrets in his musical career. The Talking Heads’ keyboardist, who was in town to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band’s landmark film STOP MAKING SENSE May 4 at the Southern Theatre (21 E. Main Street in downtown Columbus), is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his bandmates in 2002 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 2021.

Review: Musical Theatre West Ventures Back INTO THE WOODS in Long Beach
by Michael Quintos - Apr 3, 2025

For Musical Theatre West's new, winning large-scale production—now on stage at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach through April 13, 2025—director Kari Hayter and a company of terrific performers have revived the musical in an expected, true-to-the-classic staging, bursting with the color and aura of a storybook fairy tale come-to-life. While, sure, nothing necessarily new is presented in MTW's vibe, this lively, genuinely spirited presentation reminds old and new fans exactly why the show—for many theatergoers—continues to be a beloved show decades after it first conjured itself on stage.

Review: South Coast Repertory Presents LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS
by Michael Quintos - Oct 4, 2024

For SCR's impressive, must-see local revival, the show gets a hyper-hybrid treatment that combines nostalgic elements inspired by the original but infused with 21st-century sass and sensibilities. Alongside its visual splendor, the show also features a superb ensemble cast, resulting in a blissfully-raucous, infectiously smile-inducing production.

Review: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at PCPA: Solvang Festival Theater
by Anna Jensen - Jun 18, 2024

Little Shop of Horrors director/choreographer Keenan Hooks blends camp sensibilities with emotional honesty in his staging of this musical. The theatricality of the puppeteering in this send-up of B-horror flicks like “The Day of the Triffids” or “It Came from Outer Space” and 1960s pop tunes make it worth the price of admission.
