Café Nordo Presents THE CHAMPAGNE WIDOW Image

Café Nordo will present The Champagne Widow playing June 7th- 30th at Nordo's Culinarium in historic Pioneer Square. Written by Opal Peachey, composed by Annastasia Workman and directed by Billie Wildrick (Annie, The 5thAvenue) The Champagne Widow will be set in the underground caves of France, where Champagne's most luxurious bottles of bubbles come to life and sing the stories of the women who made them famous.

THE WIDOWS: "Men did not write women's history and women did not write women's history. The stories of the widows (or Veuves in French) who made Champagne into the luxury brand it is today are disappearing in the sands of the hour glass." said playwright and lead performer Opal Peachey. The Champagne Widow will tell the unsung stories of businesswomen Barbe Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin, Louise Pommery, Mathilde Laurent-Perrier and Lily Bollinger.

THE MUSICAL: Footlight Award Winning Composer Annastasia Workman is crafting the score for this book musical to bring the stories of these inspiring women to life with lyrical song. Directed by Billie Wildrick and choreographed by Nikki Long, the ensemble of 8 skilled performers will triple down on music for The Champagne Widow.

THE FOOD AND WINE: Café Nordo integrates food, drink and theatre into a multi-sensory audience experience and The Champagne Widow will feature a four course meal inspired by the story of Champagne, included in the ticket price. Available for purchase will be a "Flight of Widows" with 4 glasses of Champagne, from the houses of Veuve Clicquot, Pommery, Laurent-Perrier and Bollinger. To bring the intersectional feminist message of the production home, Nordo will also offer a "Flight of Women in Wine Today" featuring wines from estates where women of diverse backgrounds hold the CEO title in 2019.
