Sarasota Orchestra welcomes guest pianist Lukáš Vondrá?ek to perform a program that pays homage to the two most venerated composers in classical music, Brahms and Sibelius.
The concert showcases Lukáš Vondrá?ek's performance of Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1. Vondrá?ek performed debut recitals at La Cite in Paris, the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Tonhalle in Zurich. He has also played in a number of piano festivals in the USA, including the Gilmore Festival, the Ravinia Festival, and the New York International Piano Series.
The concert concludes with Sibelius' Symphony No. 1. Sibelius composed Symphony No. 1 during 1898-99 to immediate success. It was greatly influenced by Russian symphonic music, especially by Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 which Sibelius particularly admired. While the Symphony still owes much to the Romantics of the nineteenth century, it contains much that is new and foreshadows his future works.
