Berkeley Symphony Featuring SFCM Musicians - January 11

The Berkeley Symphony returns to SFCM on January 11 for a joint concert with SFCM musicians performing the world premiere of Highsmith Award winner Daniel De Togni's (Class of 2018) Tsuioku: On the Internment of Japanese Americans. Additionally, concerto competition winners Nicole Hillis '18 (trombone), Bradley Pupa '19 (guitar), and Boxianzi Ling '20 (violin) will perform works by Tomasi, Ponce, and Mendelssohn. Martin West, music director and principal conductor of San Francisco Ballet, will conduct the concert.

The California Symphony kicks off 2019 with two performances of A TANGO WITH MOZART at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 8pm and Sunday, Jan. 20 at 4pm. FROST/NIXON Comes to TheatreWorks Silicon Valley

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will kick off the new year with the Tony and Olivier Award nominated drama Frost/Nixon. Written by Golden Globe winner Peter Morgan (creator of Netflix's The Crown), Frost/Nixon is a riveting political prizefight where the cameras roll, the truth spins, and it becomes clear that he who controls the medium controls the message. With America caught in the riptides of Watergate and Vietnam, the former leader of the free world and a lightweight British talk-show host clash in a legendary series of TV interviews that will determine the President's legacy forever. Directed by Leslie Martinson, Frost/Nixon will be presented January 16 February 10, 2019 (press opening: January 19, 2019) at Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro Street, Mountain View. On Friday, January 25, 2019, NapaShakes celebrates the birthday of Scotland's Bard: Robert Burns, and the music, food and culture of Scotland, with its first ever Burns Night Supper. Guests will savor the words of Scotland's greatest poet (and a bit of Shakespeare's Macbeth) accompanied by bagpipes and a lively Ceilidh band, plus engaging performances by two acclaimed actors from Britain and Broadway: Jane Carr and Victor Talmadge. The evening includes a delicious Napa Valley-style feast with traditional haggis (meat or vegetarian), neeps and tatties, and other delights in the candle-lit Gallery of St. Helena's Brasswood Napa Valley. The event is for age 21 and older, and attendees are welcome (but not required) to wear kilts and other traditional attire.

The Marsh Berkeley has announced that due to popular demand it has scheduled an extended run of Lisa Rothman's hit show, Dragon in the Drop-Off Lane. This hilarious and cautionary tale describes what happens when Rothman's Oakland-raised kids venture into the fairytale world of Marin, where all the children seem to know how to sew, speak in a "Crystal Cave whisper," and decorate their (vegan) gingerbread men with stevia icing, carob chips, and unsweetened coconut flakes. Of course, no fairytale would be complete without a fairy godmother to help Rothman reckon with her parenting choices.

Announcing today the first round of Official Selections in Shorts and Episodics category for the upcoming 2nd Annual Mammoth Film Festival. Last year's inaugural festival drew headlines for being 'the biggest first year film festival ever organized' and this year's lineup and events aim to repeat and expand the momentum. The festival is expanding to 5 days and taking place February 7-11, 2019 in the town of Mammoth Lakes, CA. The festival's slate of World Premieres include feature films, short films, indie episodics, VR,  and a wide variety of documentaries. In celebration of its 15th anniversary season next year, Ragged Wing Ensemble is pleased to present TIME SENSITIVE, with an updated script written and directed by the company's Artistic Director Amy Sass. Time Sensitive opens in preview on Friday, April 5, 2019, and runs through May 4. Opening night is scheduled for Saturday, April 6. Performances run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m. Two Saturday matinees at 2 p.m. will take place on April 27 and May 4.
