World Premiere Of Jason Mendez' SUPREMACY Takes Centerstage At EXIT Theatre
![]()
From a staged reading at the 2017 San Francisco Olympians Festival to EXIT Theatre's mainstage, the development of Jason Mendez' Supremacy is one we're especially proud of. Inspired in part by Horus, the Egyptian god of the sky, in part by well-publicized incidences of police violence towards young men of color, and in part by the varying public responses towards those acts, Supremacy is a modern-day superhero story about race, power, and collective responsibility. A longtime theatre-maker, graphic novelist, and emerging playwright, Mendez weaves together his many influences into an urgent, dynamic piece that asks what are we today, and what can we become?
Connor (Geoffrey Malveaux), an adopted black youth, has lived his entire young life flying under the radar, adhering to the rules of "the talk." When an officer involved shooting thrusts him into the crux of his city's mounting racial & political animus, between opposing movements for power, he is set on a journey of mythic proportions to learn the truth of his heritage. A revelation that holds the key to the greatest superpower against man's inhumanity to man.
With Geoffrey Malveaux, Gary Hughes, Wera Von Wulfen, Scott Van De Mark, Valerie Fachman, Kyle Goldman, and Alexia Staniotes. Directed by Amanda Ortmayer.
