Steve Silver Foundation and BEACH BLANKET BABYLON Announce Scholarship for the Arts

Producer Jo Schuman Silver is proud to announce the 17th annual Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts." Created in 2002 as part of its commitment to the arts, the "Scholarship for the Arts" program has grown into an annual event eagerly anticipated by San Francisco Bay Area high school seniors.

"Steve was very passionate about the arts and education. Through this scholarship we continue his vision by encouraging young artists to pursue their dreams," said Schuman Silver. "We are proud to honor his legacy with this outstanding program."

Last year's program proved, once again, to be extremely successful with Beach Blanket Babylon receiving a record number of submissions. Joshua Ponton (Dance) from Oakland School of the Arts in Oakland, Nina Point Dujour (Acting) from Marin Oaks High School in Novato, and Barbara De Veaux-Griffith (Voice) from Oakland School of the Arts in Oakland each walked away with $15,000 towards their college education.

High school seniors who go to school within 100 miles of Club Fugazi (home of Beach Blanket Babylon) are asked to submit a completed entry form along with a three-minute performance in one of three categories: singing, acting, or dancing. Nine finalists-three from each category-will be selected by a panel of performing arts professionals. The finalists will perform their three-minute performances live at Club Fugazi on Monday, June 3, 2019 in front of a panel of celebrity judges and an invited audience made up of their family and friends. One winner from each category will be presented with a $15,000 check from The Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon to be used towards their higher education. The "Scholarship for the Arts" program judging is based entirely on talent; grades and financial needs are not factors.

All entries must be uploaded by 11:59 p.m. PST on Friday, April 26, 2019. Finalists will be notified Monday, May 6, 2019.
