Central Works 2019 Season's first show Wonderland, a comedy by Gary Graves, launches the 4 play 29th season and has EXTENDED THROUGH March 24th (originally scheduled to close March 17). "We truly are through the rabbit hole, and the state of the nation is beyond parody… [Wonderland is] a playful mashup of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and Franz Kafka's "The Trial" set in Washington, DC." as described by Sam Hurwitt for the San Jose Mercury News. The comedy Wonderland takes place at a time when "The White House it depicts is so fundamentally broken, such a chaotic and paranoid confusion of backstabbing and intrigue, that even the most abominable scenarios aren't particularly surprising."

Artistic Director Pam MacKinnon announced the full cast and creative team for Vanity Fair, acclaimed playwright Kate Hamill's rollicking new stage adaptation of William Thackeray's classic 19th-century novel that pops with 21st-century spirit. Ambitious Becky Sharp may not have been born with wealth or status, but she's determined to attain both-at any cost. Armed with fierce wit and calculating charm, Becky forges her own path through London's high society, dealing herself into a game she was never invited to play. Displaying the celebrated audacity and verve that she brought to her adaptation of Sense & Sensibility, Hamill conjures an inventive and lively period drama that combines a fierce contemporary edge with the theatricality of Victorian Burlesque.

A longtime theatre-maker, graphic novelist, and emerging playwright, Mendez weaves together his many influences into an urgent, dynamic piece that asks what are we today, and what can we become?
