While Kokandy Productions’ ALICE BY HEART has some lovely performances, the musical itself is far less imaginative than its ALICE IN WONDERLAND-inspired title suggests.

The full lineup of events has been revealed for the 2024 International Thespian Festival. Highlights include appearances from Zachary Noah Piser, Jodi Picoult, Duncan Sheik, Steven Sater, and many more. Piser will be hosting the festival's opening ceremony on June 23.

Dear Readers, I should start by saying that “Spring Awakening”, the musical from Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater based on the 1891 play by Frank Wedekind, has never been one of my favorites. But that first national tour and especially the 2012 local production from Balagan Theatre gave me a better appreciation for the show for what it is. However, the current production from the 5th Avenue Theatre did not.

Spring Awakening, with music by Duncan Sheik and Lyrics by Steven Sater, takes audiences on a wild ride through the tumultuous seas of adolescence. Exploring themes of attraction, desire, insecurity, and the rollercoaster of young adult life, this electrifying show is a must-see for anyone looking to relive the highs and lows of growing up. So, buckle up, grab your teenage angst, and get ready for a journey you won't soon forget!

Rise Above Performing Arts will open its 9th season with the dramatic and inspirational musical, Spring Awakening. The show which opens June 7 and runs through June 15 is Rise Above‘s professional alumni show.
