Stephen Payne To Star In The New Dark Comedy THE BIGOT

The Bigot, a timely new play and dark comedy by Gabi & Eva Mor that mixes social commentary, family drama and a lot of humor will have a full Off-Broadway run at the Theatre at St. Clement's (423 West 46thStreet) April 26 through June 9. The official opening night is set for Wednesday, May 1. Michael Susko will direct the production that features acclaimed Broadway actor Stephen Payne (Straight White Men, Of Mice and Men, Superior Donuts andAugust: Osage County) in the lead role. The full cast and creative team will be announced shortly.

There was plenty to admire when playwright/director Young Jean Lee's STRAIGHT WHITE MEN opened at The Public Theater in November of 2014.  Those familiar with the exceedingly non-traditional work of the Obie-honoree, whose past dramatic choices have included inserting a scene from 'Sesame Street' about Mr. Hooper's death into a play about King Lear and having silent nude performers interact with audience members to explore the boundaries of comfort zones may have chuckled a bit at the thought of her stepping into theatrical territory more or less defined in this country by the naturalistic classics of dramatists like Arthur Miller and Eugene O'Neill.

Stephen Payne to Replace Denis Arndt in STRAIGHT WHITE MEN

Stephen Payne will assume the role of "Ed" in the Broadway production of Young Jean Lee's dark comedy, STRAIGHT WHITE MEN, directed by Anna D. Shapiro. Mr. Payne is replacing Denis Arndt, who is leaving the production due to creative differences.
