Just confirmed at a Television Critics Association Press Tour is what many have been speculating for weeks: Simon Cowell will depart American Idol after this season and launch The X Factor on Fox for an early 2011 broadcast.

Saturday Night Live stars and writers including Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Jason Sudeikis, Abby Elliott, Bridey Elliott, Jorma Taccone, Colin Jost, Hannibal Buress, and more will come together on Sunday, January 31 to perform a ONE NIGHT ONLY event: 'BEYOND FUNDERDOME COMEDY BLOWOUT!'

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that FOX has ordered three more seasons of American Idol. FOX's current deal with American Idol producers, FremantleMedia and 19 Productions, runs through 2011 but the new deal guarantees three additional seasons of the show.

American Idol is set to return for its much-anticipated ninth season with a two-night premiere featuring talent and outrageous new auditions from Boston Tuesday, Jan. 12 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Atlanta Wednesday, Jan. 13 (8:00-9:15 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
