There are some places that feel like a theatre, and then there are places that feel like home. Murry's Dinner Playhouse in Little Rock has always been the latter for me. From the moment I walk through the doors, I know I'm in for an evening filled with great food, wonderful people, and top-notch entertainment.
Have you ever laughed so hard you nearly spit out your custom made green pina colada? That’s the kind of delightfully zany fun waiting for you at Young Frankenstein, now playing at Murry’s Dinner Playhouse in Little Rock through November 8. With Mel Brooks’ outrageous humor, toe-tapping musical numbers, and Murry’s signature blend of good food and great theatre, this production is an absolute scream—literally.
Looking for a good laugh? Don’t miss your chance to see Ken Ludwig’s The Three Musketeers with UCA Summer Theatre, which is running through July 29 at the Windgate Center for Fine and Performing Arts in Conway! Directed by the ever-talented Chris Fritzges, this swashbuckling adventure is packed with some of my favorite Arkansas theatre pros (seriously, I’d follow them anywhere). They had me laughing so hard, I was wiping away tears. Grab your tickets before the final curtain falls!
There are some plays that reach into your chest, gently lift your heart, and place it into a more vulnerable position, and On Golden Pond is one of them. Currently playing at The Argenta Contemporary Theatre in North Little Rock through Saturday, May 24, this Ernest Thompson classic has found fresh resonance in the hands of a talented cast and a deeply affecting production that speaks with poignancy and warmth to anyone who's walked alongside a loved one facing the fog of memory loss.
It is not truly summer until we’ve seen a few Shakespearean plays, so we were thrilled when we heard Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre was bringing HENRY V to various locations in Arkansas. Under new leadership and nonprofit status, AST had a limited run from July 10 through July 15 before heading up north to perform with Shake on the Lake in New York. I happened to catch them at Witherspoon Auditorium at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville on the 15th and was thrilled to hear the happiness coming from this welcoming community.
From now through Saturday, May 25, Murry’s Dinner Playhouse, 6323 Col Glenn Rd, in Little Rock, is presenting the Oscar Wilde classic THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST. First performed in 1895, Director Roger Eaves captures the play’s purpose of satirizing the social norms and conventions of Victorian society, while embracing his cast’s cuteness factor. You will leave with a full belly and conversation for the way home. Seats are still available, so grab your tickets at murrysdp.com.
What did our critic think of DRAGONS LOVE TACOS at Arkansas Museum Of Fine Arts? The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, 501 E 9th St, in Little Rock, is a beautiful facility. It is huge! There is so much space with so much potential and located on land once owned by the Quapaw nation.
We here at Broadway World love all sorts of theatre, but one of our favorite types of theatre is Children’s Theatre. We believe that going to the theatre during the developmental years is extremely important for the growth of our younger people.
This cast is professional grade. As an ensemble, they are tight and respond well with each other. I loved watching them all interact and go through the scenes. They kept the dialogue flowing and comical.
Hello, friends, and welcome to my 2023 Broadway World Year in Review. I literally doubled the number of articles this year from last year, and I’ve had the best time!
