Perfection, thy name is Joseph. And Narrator. And Pharoah. And Jacob. And Potiphar. And director Glenn Casale’s explosive production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Broadway at Music Circus. This musical marvel is an early collaboration of super-duo Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, who would go on to create such hits as Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita. The original Broadway show opened in 1982 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards, including Best Original Score. It was last seen at Broadway at Music Circus in 2010, so Sacramento is more than ready for this spectacular sung-through musical once again.

I have seen it 10 times now, all in different cities, and each time left the theatre with tears in my eyes and my heart feeling a little lighter. This is the greatest example of how magical theatre can be, in my opinion. And my hopes for a beautiful production for my 10th viewing were not dashed in the slightest-- Olivia Valli and Celia Hottenstein bewitch the audience from their first moments on stage.
This time, the reader question was: In The Shark is Broken, Ian Shaw portrays his father Robert Shaw on stage. Have other actors played their real-life family members on Broadway or off-Broadway?
What did our critic think of WICKED at Whitney Hall? Wicked is an institution. Wicked is a brand. Wicked is the gateway drug of musical theatre, well it was 13 years ago for me at least. It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost 8 years since Elphaba flew through Louisville, but at long last Oz has returned to The Kentucky Center in all of its emerald glory.
Electric Owl Studios, the greenest studio on earth, opened their doors to the Broadway Green Alliance and the stars of Wicked, Olivia Valli (Elphaba) and Celia Hottenstein (Glinda), to highlight the importance of creating sustainable production practices. Valli and Hottenstein toured the Electric Owl Studios campus and along the way learned tips on ways fans can implement green practices into their everyday lives. Watch the video here!
