Black Theatre Commons: A Call for Revolutionary Theatre Amidst Ongoing Pandemics: COVID-19, Anti-Blackness And The Movement For Black Lives 

In response to the disproportional effects of COVID-19 on the Black community, continued State-sponsored violence and criminalization of Black skin. The Black Theatre Commons (BTC) is drawing on our mission to activate our collective resources to amplify, nurture, and support Black theatres and practitioners through advocacy, convening, networking, and knowledge-sharing.

Crossroads Theatre Company Will Present FREEDOM RIDER

Come to Crossroads Theatre Company to 'get on the bus' and experience the perilous history-making journey of the Freedom Riders, black and white college students who traveled through the South by bus to challenge the non-enforcement of federal law that ruled segregation on public buses unconstitutional. The Freedom Riders drew national attention to their cause because of the violence pointed against them as they traveled from state to state. The play Freedom Rider, written by Murray Horwitz, Nathan Louis Jackson, Kathleen McGhee-Anderson, Ricardo Khan, and Nikkole Salter, runs April 9 through April 19 in the Arthur Laurents Theatre of the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC).

The Workshop Theater to Present Industry Reading Of PULP VERITE By Crystal Skillman

Pulp Vérité, a new play by playwright Crystal Skillman will receive a 29-hour reading with the award-winning The Workshop Theater. The presentation will culminate in two readings on March 6th at 3 and 7 PM, at the A.R.T/NY studios (520 8th Avenue), in the Bruce Mitchell Room. The reading is free, and reservations can be made at www.workshoptheater.org.

Cleveland Public Theatre Presents A New Play Inspired By Cleveland's Consent Decree With The U.S. Department Of Justice

Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) is proud to present the world premiere of Breakout Session (or Frogorse) by Nikkole Salter, directed by CPT's Associate Artistic Director & Director of Production Beth Wood, onstage in CPT's James Levin Theatre from February 22 through March 14, 2020. Breakout Session (or Frogorse) was commissioned by CPT with funding from the National New Play Network (NNPN). 

Page 73 Has Named Emma Goidel the 2020 Playwriting Fellow

PAGE 73 PRODUCTIONS (Page 73) (Michael Walkup, Artistic Director; Amanda Feldman, Managing Director; Rebecca Yaggy, Director of Development; Liz Jones and Asher Richelli, Founding Directors) has named Emma Goidel the 2020 Page 73 Playwriting Fellow. Selected from over 400 applicants, Goidel will receive a $10,000 award and an additional $10,000 budgeted for developing several new plays over the course of the year.

Huntington Theatre Company Announces Casting For World Premiere Of OUR DAUGHTERS, LIKE PILLARS

Huntington Theatre Company has announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere family comedy, Our Daughters, Like Pillars. Obie Award-winning playwright and Boston native Kirsten Greenidge (Luck of the Irish, Milk Like Sugar at the Huntington) joins forces with director Kimberly Senior (Sweat and The Niceties at the Huntington; Disgraced on Broadway) to tell the funny and moving story of one whirlwind weekend in the life of a contemporary black American family. Our Daughters, Like Pillars begins performances at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA (527 Tremont Street, Boston) on Friday, March 20, 2020 and will run through Sunday, April 19, 2020. The official press opening night is Wednesday, April 1. Tickets are now available.

Studio Theatre Has Named Reginald L. Douglas as New Associate Artistic Director

Studio Theatre and Artistic Director David Muse have announced that Reginald L. Douglas will join the organization as its new Associate Artistic Director later this month. Douglas comes to Studio from City Theatre Company in Pittsburgh, where he has served as Artistic Producer since 2015.
