Workshop closes OTHER DESERT CITIES and BEAUTIFUL rolls into town for a weeklong stay at the Koger Center!

Directors Lab West, under the direction of steering committee members Che'Rae Adams, Ernest Figueroa, Janet Miller, and Diana Wyenn, has announced its 20th annual conference for early and mid-career stage directors and choreographers.   Since its founding, over 600 directors and choreographers have participated in the Lab's week-long explorations of cutting edge thinking for the modern stage, including prominent artists such as Vincent Paterson, Marc Bruni, Lissa Wolpe and Gregg Daniel.  Hundreds of prominent guest artists have volunteered their time over the years to speak with Lab participants including luminaries such as Jack O'Brien, Randy Newman, Tonya Pinkins and Jason Alexander.  For full lists of past alumni and guest artists, please visit www.directorslabwest.com.  

The 2019-2020 Broadway season at the Peace Center is the biggest yet, with a record 11 shows, including the 2018 Tony Award winners for Best Musical (The Band's Visit) and Best Revival of a Musical (Once on This Island).

Chilina Kennedy will return to her hometown of Toronto to reprise her Broadway role in the Tony & Grammy Award-winning Broadway hit BEAUTIFUL - THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL. Kennedy, will join the first national tour in this exclusive encore engagement for Toronto - April 9 - May 5, 2019 at the Princess of Wales Theatre.

ASU Gammage has announced its 2019-2020 Desert Financial Broadway Across America -Arizona season. Marc Bruni (Beautiful) will direct an industry reading of Glimpses of the Moon, a sparkling romantic musical based on one of Edith Wharton's rare comedies, Monday, March 11th, 6PM at the Players Club on Gramercy Park. In celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the premiere, this reading is an opportunity for producers and audiences to fall in love with this romantic and funny, 6 character, 90-minute musical.

Alison Whitehurst was born in Sugar Land, Texas. The daughter of a professional pianist, she was exposed to music at a very early age, tagging along and watching her father play gigs from backstage. She would often sit and experiment with him at the piano and played herself for nine years. After her parents divorce, Whitehurst transferred to a new middle school. Her mother recommended she sign up for a theatre class to help her make friends. She was cast in her first musical in eighth grade, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, and thought to herself, 'wait a second! I'm going to sing AND do this fun new theatre thing at the same time?!' She continued on through high school and never looked back, earning a BFA in Theatre Performance from Texas Christian University. Whitehurst is currently on tour as Cynthia Weil in BEAUTIFUL - THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL. I had the chance to chat with her just prior to the tour's stop in Montreal.
