The New York Pops' performance at Carnegie Hall was just an overwhelmingly beautiful way to experience the music of theater (and I imagine if they did a John Williams score too it would feel similar.) Having seen most of these tunes played with just a piano and sometimes with a few more instruments, this full orchestra with guest choir of at least 60 was like peering into the original imagination of Rodgers and Hammerstein...

Cast members from Broadway shows including The Tina Turner Musical, Waitress and Head Over Heels will sing completely new arrangements of the hits of the British rock band, accompanied by a 14-piece orchestra playing original orchestrations of their music.

Later today, Broadway welcomes a brand new musical, JAGGED LITTLE PILL- an exhilarating new musical inspired by the themes and raw emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette's seminal album of the same name. The show marks the return of Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus, who brings it straight from its record-breaking, sold-out world premiere at American Repertory Theater last summer, where she has served as Artistic Director since 2008. Since then, five of Paulus' show have transferred to Broadway. Today, we're looking back at the other four!

Matthew Pugliese, who served as Managing Director of Connecticut Repertory Theatre and Executive Producer of the Nutmeg Summer Series, will depart the organization in late November. There will be a search for his replacement. Pugliese will become the Associate Director for the Connecticut Small Business Development Center.

The festive concert features the couple's iconic worksa?"written with each other, as well as with other collaboratorsa?"performed by The New York Pops, under the music direction of Steven Reineke, along with a starry line-up of guest artists to be announced.
Most people are familiar with Jane Austen's a?oePride and Prejudicea??. Whether it's from the book, the mini-series, the movies (even the zombie one), or just from general pop culture, most people know the story. So, turning this into a musical is a bit risky especially with so many Austen-philes out there. But writers Lindsay Warren Baker and Amanda Jacobs, have pulled it off (to an extent) with their new musical a?oeAusten's Pridea??, currently at the 5th Avenue Theatre, and have even tripled the daunting task by making the melodies soar while fitting in the period, combining it with a story of Austen herself, and still retaining the charm and heart of a?oePride and Prejudicea?? along the way.
