The Broadway at Birdland concert series recently welcomed Tony winner Katrina Lenk and her friend and former cast member from The Band's Visit, George Abud in a one-night only concert called 'Swung.' The performance took place on Monday, March 4.
Devised by her long-time collaborators, musical director Christopher Denny and director Barry Kleinbort, 'STAGES' refers to the theates and venues where Ms. Dallas displayed her formidable gifts as a singer and top tier interpreter of popular song, as well as to the formative stages in a life, stages that have taken her from a small town in Southern Illinois to the rarefied hothouse atmosphere of New Orleans, Carnegie Hall and on to dazzling nights in the West End with Sammy Cahn and Dame Cleo Laine, culminating in several Royal Variety performances.
'What the world needs now is love, sweet love...'
And with those lyrics Marilyn Maye returned to the Iridium Music Club and set the theme for her Valentine's week show, 'Always From The Heart'.
Marvelous Marilyn Maye, at the peak of a miraculous career at 90, returns to Minneapolis for the first time since 2010 for a four-show major engagement at the lakeside supper club Crooners in March. Maye, a practitioner without peer of a classic American nightclub style that Crooners audiences are embracing, plays the club's newly refurbished, 200-seat Crooners MainStage in back-to-back early and late shows (5:30pm and 8pm), on Saturday and Sunday March 23 and 24. Joining her for this four-show weekend stand will be her New York music director Tedd Firth on piano, leading a trio with locals Gary Raynor on bass (a Maye vet) and David Schmalenberger on drums.
'Nowhere could you get that happy feeling when you are stealing that extra bow...'
Ms. Lorna Dallas has returned to NYC to steal an extra bow (or 3) after a lifetime of trodding the theatrical boards in London's West End, Australia, Germany, NY, on televison, and in Royal Variety performances. What a 'Glamorous Life'.
