The Broadway at Birdland concert series was thrilled to present 'A Sophisticated Reunion' on Monday, May 23. The one-night-only event starred Terri Klausner, Valarie Pettiford and Ty Stephens, who met in Sophisticated Ladies, a Broadway musical review based on the music of Duke Ellington, which opened in March of 1981.

Two-time Drama Desk Award-nominee & YouTube sensation Christina Bianco, two-time Nightlife Award-winner Scott Coulter (who travels around the world performing with Stephen Schwartz), Jeannette Bayardelle (original cast of The Color Purple) and Cooper Grodin (plays The Phantom in the National Tour of Phantom of the Opera), will join previously announced Tony-nominee Christiane Noll (Ragtime) & Drama Desk Award-nominee Kerry O'Malley (Into the Woods, Irving Berlin's White Christmas) at Town Hall's Broadway by the Year Series on Monday, May 23 at 8pm, THE BROADWAY MUSICALS OF THE 1960s (this is the 16th year of the series).

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present the return of singer/songwriter Victoria Shaw in "Under The Covers" on Monday, May 16.  Victoria's special musical guests were Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, of the multi-platinum selling band, Nelson, Drew and Jonathan Scott, from the hit TV series 'Property Brothers,' superstar pianist Jim Brickman and 'Madam Secretary' star Erich Bergen. On Sunday, May 8, the Broadway at Birdland concert series was, once again, proud to present Daniel Reichard in a brand new spirited variety show entitled 'Friends, Acquaintances, and Strangers.' Scroll down for photos from the concert!

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presented singer Iris Williams, who returned to the historic stage with "An Encore Evening with Iris Williams" on Monday, May 2.  The concert celebrated the Great American Songbook, concentrating on songs performed by Edith Piaf, and written by Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington, Henry Mancini and the Gershwins.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present The Matt & Brian Show, starring critically acclaimed singer/songwriters Matt Cusson and Brian Gallagher, who appeared on the historic stage on Sunday, April 24, along with special guest vocalists Megan Hilty, Celisse Henderson and Carly Hughes. The Actors Company Theatre (TACT) announced today that the TACT 2016 Spring Gala will honor former TACT Co-Artistic Director and current company member Simon Jones.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present jazz singer Gabrielle Stravelli in "On The Road Again" on Monday, April 11.  With a band that included Art Hirahara on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass, Eric Halvorson on drums and Scott Robinson on sax, 'On the Road Again' featured songs Stravelli has collected and composed in travels as varied as a US State Department-sponsored international tour, headlining the Eleuthera Jazz Festival in the Bahamas and a nine-month European tour of Hair.  The show showcased Stravelli's signature mix of eclectic influences including international folk songs, jazz standards, fresh arrangements of pop and musical theater, original compositions from her forthcoming CD release and a preview of her new Willie Nelson tribute 'City Girl, Country Boy'.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present NY1 theater journalist Frank DiLella, who returned to the Birdland stage with the fourth episode of his new talk show, 'Show Biz After Hours With Frank DiLella.' On Monday, March 28, the Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present "Piano Men," starring pianists Brad Simmons, Eric Yves Garcia and Matt Baker. The one-night-only event was directed by John McDaniel. BroadwayWorld has photos from the concert below!

"I'm a black woman in America; breathing is political," stated Natalie Douglas, wryly, early in her March 21 concert at Birdland to celebrate the release of her excellent new recording Human Heart. I felt myself inwardly fist pump-yes! Douglas dared to acknowledge the contemporary political circus-which I, for one, am completely obsessed with-on the cabaret stage! Okay, I can relax-I will make it through this show without listening to a political podcast or reading a David Brooks New York Times opinion column after all. Phew! I have not entered a purely escapist fantasyland, but surrendered to the capable musical ensemble on stage. Douglas wore a long white gown (chosen out of the pile when her husband made an approvingly bawdy comment as she tried it on for him) and her band-all six of whom appear on the record-wore all black. The appearance was a study in contrast, but the group, was most assuredly a cohesive instrument.
