After two and a half years without Broadway's biggest night, the Tony Awards returned on Sunday, Sept. 26! This year's presentation honored the outstanding shows, performances and artistry of the 2019-2020 Broadway season. 

CBS and The American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards announced that a bevy of stage and screen stars that will appear on 'The Tony Awards® Present: Broadway's Back!' live from The Winter Garden Theatre in New York City, Sunday, Sept. 26 on the CBS Television Network and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

The returning  casts have been announced for all three productions of Dear Evan Hansen, each of them featuring the  acclaimed actors who were performing the title role in March 2020 at the time of the shutdown.

While theaters on Broadway and across the country were forced into darkness because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS supporters shined brightly, fueling $13,024,000 in grants to The Actors Fund and 424 other social services agencies across the country during fiscal year 2021, which ends September 30.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Elsie Fest, Broadway's outdoor music festival, will be back on August 29 at the 2021 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival. Now in its 6th year, the event was founded by Darren Criss and celebrates stars and songs from the stage and screen.

Today, singer and songwriter Darren Criss released his newest single, “for a night like this'. “for a night like this” arrives on the heels of two previously released singles, “i can't dance” and “f*kn around,” each showcasing a completely different side of Darren as an artist.

Fisher was the first African American to portray the title character in 'Dear Evan Hansen,' entering the production shortly before the shutdown on January 28, 2020.

His additional accomplishments include being the first African American to portray the title character of 'Evan' in 'Dear Evan Hansen' and winning ABC's 25th season of 'Dancing With the Stars.'

Music has always played an integral role in Darren’s artistry. As a solo artist, his 2017 EP Homework debuted at #1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Album chart. Criss has toured to sold-out audiences around the world including headlining the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival with multi-GRAMMY Award nominee and renowned DJ Steve Aoki.

Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton star Jordan Fisher and Hairspray Live!'s Dove Cameron will lead HBO Max's adaptation of Jennifer E. Smith 2019 young adult novel, Field Notes on Love, according to Deadline. The film will be adapted for the screen by Smith and Broadway veteran Lauren Graham.
