What did our critic think of URINETOWN AT WORKHOUSE ARTS CENTER at Workhouse Arts Center? There is something I learned about Greg Kotis and Mark Hollman's 2001 hit satire URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL after seeing the production this weekend at Workhouse Arts Center. I've seen it several times over the years in various settings, but I finally realized that URINETOWN is a deceivingly difficult piece to produce.

The Reston Community Players (RCP) have launched a new apprenticeship program to train and educate local youth in all aspects of the performing arts. The program, which is open to students ages 12 to 18, includes both a performance track and a production track to provide participants with exposure to the process of building a theatrical production from the ground up.

After being dark since last March due to COVID-19, Reston Community Players comes back to life with A Walk in the Woods, a cold war era drama by Lee Blessing that examines the relationship between a Russian and an American arms negotiator as they converse informally in a series of meetings in a park on the outskirts of Geneva.  This production is being pre-recorded and presented virtually through on-demand streaming from March 19-25.

The month of November is traditionally one of giving thanks, and this year, Reston Community Players (RCP) is showing its thanks to the community for its support with a special month-long concert series of gratitude. RCP Gives Thanks will share the talents of some of RCP's familiar  performers while generating donations for both the organization as well as other local non-profit organizations in the Reston area with a series of virtual mini-concerts that also bring with them a message of gratitude and camaraderie.

Reston Community Players continues its 53rd season with The Diary of Anne Frank, an impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic. Based on a true story, Anne Frank tells the story of the two-year ordeal through the writings of the title character, whose optimism in the midst of a dark existence has served as a guide for generations. The Diary of Anne Frank runs February 28-March 14 at the Reston Community Center.

Class warfare, a love triangle, a murderous plot and plenty of laughs. That's what Reston Community Players will bring to the stage this fall as it opens its 53rd season with the musical comedy A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. The Tony-Award winning production that combines murder with nonstop laughter runs October 18-November 9 at the Reston Community Center.

Leapin' Lizards! Reston Community Players welcomes everyone's favorite orphan as it concludes its 52nd season with the classic family musical Annie. The beloved story of the tough orphan, her search for her parents and her chance encounter with a New York she's never known runs April 26-May 18 at the Reston Community Center.
