What do clownish costumes and biblical parables have in common? Subversive Broadway staple, GODSPELL of course! Austin's Trinity Street Players take on the classic Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak rock musical with an effervescent production fitting for Easter weekend.

In 1970, John-Michael Tebelak's master's thesis, Godspell, was first performed at Carnegie Mellon. Then in 1971, after a run at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, Stephen Schwartz was hired to re-score the show before being produced off-Broadway. Godspell, which is primarily based on parables from the Gospel of Matthew (with a few from the Gospel of Luke and one from John), has had several revivals and numerous tours. Audiences can enjoy a unique interpretation of Godspell at Prima opening April 5th. To find out more about this upcoming production, I spoke with director J. Scott Lapp and Tayler Harris, the actor portraying Jesus.

WaterTower Theatre Producing Artistic Director, Shane Peterman, today announced the Company will produce a special limited-engagement run of Stephen Schwartz's beloved musical, Godspell. Stephen Schwartz has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with Warner/Chappell Music (WCM), the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group. The composer of hit musicals Godspell, Pippin, and Wicked, Schwartz is the recipient of three Academy Awards, four Grammy Awards, and the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award.

In late 2009, the Alhambra Dinner Theater was purchased by a group of Jacksonville business people as a way to save the iconic theater from closing permanently. Lipscomb University Theatre unveils its latest production - a play that started out as a college senior project - which depicts the life and teachings of Jesus Christ in a fun-filled, creative new staging of John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz's Godspell. Coinciding with homecoming festivities on the Nashville campus, Godspell stars Nashville professional actor Patriq James as Jesus in performances November 2-11, along with an ensemble of Lipscomb University student actors.

Following an acclaimed run earlier this summer and in anticipation of its upcoming move Off-Broadway, brooklynONE productions (bkONE) will present additional performances of its new production of Godspell beginning September 7, 2018.

'Godspell' is a rock and roll expression of the story of Jesus's adult years without thumping a Bible over your head. If religion is Kryptonite to you, don't worry. This is rocking musical theater not a Pentecostal sermon. The touching music of the show highlights love, obtaining inner peace, embracing who you are.

brooklynONE productions (bkONE) is currently in production of a revival of 1971's Godspell.

The pace throughout is fast and the energy high, with enthusiastic performances.

Godspell was originally conceived by John Michael Tebelak back in 1970 for his master's thesis and was first performed off-Broadway the following year with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. It went on to be performed around the world and even made into a movie.

Theatre Aspen announced casting for the organization's 35th Anniversary Season, which includes Ragtime, Godspell, and Our Town today. This season's productions promise to bring world class theatre dramatically closer by presenting talent from Broadway, national tours, and training programs from across the country.
