Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota recently announced the winners of the 2017 National Piano Competition. The competition rotates each year between, piano, voice and string instruments and is open to talented young musicians who are residents of the United States. The finals were held April 29 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center in Sarasota. A total of $21,600 was awarded to eight contestants. Scroll down for photos!

Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota enters its 22nd season bringing a diverse selection of musical experiences to the region with a dynamic line-up of established and emerging classical, cabaret, jazz and pops artists. The season, which runs September 2017 through May 2018, features 41 performances at a variety of venues throughout Sarasota County. Concerts cover a wide range of musical offerings, including classical recitals, pops, jazz and cabaret concerts, a Bach festival, chamber soirees and the popular Lunch & Listen series.

Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota presents soprano Maria Wirries and seven outstanding young performers from Penn State University's Musical Theatre program in "Hot 'n' Cole: A Cole Porter Celebration," Sunday, May 14, 3:00 p.m., at the Sarasota Opera House, 61 N. Pineapple Avenue, Sarasota. In celebration of the genius of Cole Porter, these eight outstanding young artists will take audiences on a spirited journey through the best of the renowned American songwriter's works. The 2nd-annual Voices for the Voiceless: Stars for Foster Kids concert was just held last night, September 12th at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. This special event, presented by Beachbody.com, Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley, brought together the brightest stars of stage and screen to raise awareness about the plight of kids in foster care, particularly those aged 13 to 21 whom many consider 'unadoptable' because of their age.
MY FRIEND, THE CAT Returns to NY, at the Philipstown Depot Theatre

The Philipstown Depot Theatre will host Phil Geoffrey Bond's My Friend, the Cat on Saturday, October 1 at 8pm. My Friend, the Cat, a hit at off-Broadway's Laurie Beechman Theatre in 2007, is being revived for this special one-night-only performance on the banks of the Hudson River. Featuring music by some of the greatest songwriters of the past century, the evening is intermingled with spoken text by Bond about his ten year relationship with one particularly mischievous feline.

Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) Kelsey Theatre is pleased to welcome back the Mercer County-based theater company Shakespeare '70 for "Hamlet" in June. Now in its 47th year at Kelsey, the popular company presents Shakespeare's epic tale about the Prince of Denmark, considered by many to be Shakespeare's best play, on Fridays, June 3 and 10 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, June 4 and 11 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, June 5 and 12 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on MCCC's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. A reception with the cast and crew follows the opening night show on June 3.
