Classic Stage Company has announced full casting for Stephen Schwartz and Joseph Stein’s The Baker’s Wife, starring Ariana DeBose and Scott Bakula. Directed by Gordon Greenberg, the musical will open CSC’s 2025–26 season, running October 23–December 14, 2025, at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater.

Set in the treacherous mountains of Transylvania, the story follows a meek English real estate agent, Jonathan Harker, who embarks on a journey to meet a mysterious new client — who just happens to be the most terrifying vampire of all: Count Dracula. But this Dracula is a Gen Z pansexual with an existential crisis, adding a modern twist to the classic tale.

The beginning of August means the start of spooky season, and what better way to celebrate than with the most famous undead of all? Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen’s campy delight, Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, is playing now at the B St. Theatre. You need to hurry to get tickets to this Monty Python-esque nod to Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula, because the word is getting out -- this cast is bitingly good.

Summer theatre in Sacramento is something I look forward to with unbridled anticipated every year. Outdoor dining at a locally owned restaurant followed by a fabulous show downtown is one of my favorite ways to spend a summer evening.
