PBS member station Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) announces the inaugural Jazz Music Awards, a two-hour award show celebrating the best in Jazz. Hosted by Dee Dee Bridgewater and Delroy Lindo, the show will feature performances by Dianne Reeves, Kenny Garrett, and more.

In her new role, Underwood, who has been at the studio since 2010, will oversee all creative affairs, including the studio’s development of drama, comedy and limited series, as well as the current series slate. Inspired by creator Tracy McMillan’s life, the series follows a messy but perfectionist relationship therapist, social media influencer and single mom, Paige Alexander (Kerry Washington), whose life is turned right-side-up when her dad, Edwin Alexander (Delroy Lindo), gets out of prison and moves in with her and her teenage son.

NEW FEDERAL THEATRE will hold its 53rd Anniversary Celebration on October 2 at Edison Ballroom, honoring Woodie King, Jr., Gabrielle Kurlander, and Sade Lythcott. The gala is chaired by Kenny Leon and Lynn Whitfield.

The 5th Annual AAFCA TV Honors distinguished achievement recipients were revealed by the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA). The “We See You” Award, given to performers who demonstrate versatility in their work, will go to Jennifer Hudson, host of Warner Bros. Unscripted Television’s “The Jennifer Hudson Show.”

Hollywood Records released UnPrisoned, the original score soundtrack for Onyx Collective’s hit new series now streaming on Hulu. The score was composed by legendary Grammy-award winning music producers and songwriters Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The series is executive produced and stars the award-winning actors Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo.

Disney’s Onyx Collective announced streaming premiere date for its first narrative feature film, “Bruiser,” following its theatrical release on Dec. 2. The film stars Trevante Rhodes as Porter, Shamier Anderson as Malcolm, Shinelle Azoroh as Monica, and Jalyn Hall as Darious.

The 2022 Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy Fat Ham by James Ijames will make its Broadway premiere in 2023. The Public’s Associate Artistic Director and Resident Director Saheem Ali returns to direct the complete original Off-Broadway cast, including Nikki Crawford as “Tedra,” Chris Herbie Holland as “Tio,” Billy Eugene Jones as “Rev” and “Pap,” Adrianna Mitchell as “Opal,” Calvin Leon Smith as “Larry,” Marcel Spears as “Juicy,” and Benja Kay Thomas as “Rabby.”

The Huntington has announced the casting and creative team for the highly anticipated revival of August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, directed by Lili-Anne Brown. Wilson’s masterpiece serves as the inaugural production of the newly renovated Huntington Theatre and runs from October 14 – November 13, 2022.

Former WME partner Holland is set as senior vice president of Scripted Series, along with seasoned producers Anil Kurian and Janice Park, who will both serve as vice presidents of Scripted Series. All three will report to Tara Duncan, president of Freeform and Onyx Collective.
