Lina Koutrakos returns to the solo stage on February 20th at Birdland.

BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB will present an exclusive six-show engagement from Rickie Lee Jones to preview her upcoming album Pieces of Treasure from Thursday, April 6 to Saturday, April 8 with shows at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM.

BIRDLAND JAZZ CLUB will present the return of Julie Benko – direct from Broadway’s smash hit revival of Funny Girl – with her band “Euphonic Gumbo” on Monday, February 6 at 7:00 PM.

Michael Feinstein played Zankel Hall this week with a concert of music made famous by Frank Sinatra and it was everything you hope for when you walk into Carnegie Hall.

Susan Mack debuted her new show at Birdland Jazz Club. Susan brought her jazz vocals to American Songbook and Popular songs from the 1930's to the 1990's. Directed by Lina Koutrakos and backed by Susan's trio of musicians including Tedd Firth (Piano), David Finck (Bass), Eric Halvorson (Drums), with guest appearance by Trumpeter Benny Benack III.

We all love to reminisce. A trip down memory lane is highly satisfying. In fact, for those of us who are devotees of The American Songbook, reminiscing is sort of our gig. Susan Mack has made it the theme of her evening, SUSAN MACK: YESTERDAYS, which opened yesterday at Birdland. And Ms. Mack is, indeed a singer worth remembering. She has a voice as full-bodied as honey, with impeccable pitch and delicious taste in music. She put together a program of classy, often rueful tunes about days gone by, both hers and ours. As she points out, the beauty of calling a show YESTERDAYS is that you can sing anything written before today.

Following her recent sold-out performances, Susan Mack returns to Birdland to debut Yesterdays, a new show with a diverse, uplifting and timeless set of Standards. These songs of yesterday transcend the era in which they were created; their messages and the emotions they elicit are still powerful, relatable, and relevant today.

Kings, Queens, Presidents, and various celebrities have “slept there” Currently this landmark on Madison Avenue is the residence of another Ambassador.  An Ambassador of the Great American Songbook.  Michael Feinstein will be on the intimate stage of the 88 seat night club through October 22 and again in December and on New Years Eve. 

This album, more than any we have heard in a long time, sounds (and most importantly) feels like we’re sitting down in a club, hearing a live performer doing her cabaret set.

When you go to see an evening featuring Michael Feinstein, it is a given that you will hear some well-crafted performances of classics from The Great American Songbook as well as some more obscure gems. What is less well known is what an educational experience any appearance by Mr. Feinstein is. There is probably no one who knows more about American popular music from the golden age than Michael Feinstein.
