Part awkward teen drama, part eerie sci-fi, Be More Chill with music and lyrics by Joe Iconis and book by Joe Tracz, based on the 2004 young adult novel by Ned Vizzini, is one of the coolest, freshest comedic musicals in years. It already classifies as a cult favorite, and even though it's currently playing on Broadway, you can (and should) be among the first to see New Line Theatre's production through June 22!

Joe Orton's The Ruffian on the Stair is set for four performances only in the 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival, it was announced today by Hicks Street Productions. Under the direction of Mark Kemble, the cast will feature (in alphabetical order) S le Bermingham, Reed Michael Campbell, and Brian Foyster. Lighting design is by Matt Richter. The performance dates and times are Sunday 6/9 at 4pm; Thursday 6/13 at 8:30pm; Friday 6/21 at 6:30pm; and Saturday 6/22 at 8pm. Running time will be 60 minutes.

George Street Playhouse's Annual Gala Benefit, held Sunday, May 5 at the Heldrich Hotel in downtown New Brunswick shattered fundraising goals this year to become the organization's highest grossing Gala in history, an achievement that punctuated an already celebratory evening as George Street and its patrons look eagerly ahead to the completion of its permanent new home in The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center this fall.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announces Jack Falahee, star of ABC's How to Get Away With Murder, to play the role of Jim in the heartfelt comedy, Byhalia, Mississippi, playwright Evan Linder's uncompromising exploration of race, infidelity, and family. Directed by Kimberly Senior (director of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Disgraced on Broadway), Byhalia, Mississippi will play the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater for four weeks, June 7-July 7, 2019. Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) family theatre, The Fun Company is proud to present The Light Princess. In this adaptation of George MacDonald's classic, a mischievous and spirited troupe of performers tell the tale of a little girl who just happens to be a princess, who was put under a magic spell that left her weightless. The efforts of the baffled royal family to 'bring her back down to earth' are at times humorous and never quite successful until a wandering prince happens by. Could he be the one to break the spell of the evil Princess Makemnoit who has devilish plans to drain the lake, which is the only thing that brings the princess joy?

Seward Johnson, "America's most popular sculptor;" his wife, writer and producer Cecelia Joyce Johnson; and the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders will receive the Thomas H. Kean Arts Advocacy Award during George Street Playhouse's annual gala on May 5.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 120 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the 50th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which runs April 16-20, 2019 in multiple locations throughout the Center. The Center also announced the national awardees for the KCACTF. Selected awardees and representatives will be brought to Washington, D.C. for an expense-paid trip to participate in the National Festival. These student artists from across the United States have been recognized for their outstanding work from the eight regional festivals that were held January 8 through February 28, 2019.

The acclaimed company will celebrate more than three decades of work by their founding artistic director and choreographer Carolyn Dorfman in a program entitled "Love Life Dance."

For those of you who have never been to a production by The Florentine Players, you are in for a treat. It's small town dinner theater. The stage is located at the front of a large space filled with long tables in the Florence City Hall off State Street. At the back of the room is a canteen where you can buy popcorn, cookies, or nachos and a variety of other things. There is a beverage bar in the hallway. It's cozy. It's neighborly. BroadwayWorld was sad to announce the passing of theatre icon Carol Channing early Tuesday morning. She was most notably known for creating the legendary role of Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly, a role she went on to play in more than 5,000 performances.

The Coachella Valley Symphony will continue it's 26th Annual Season by performing 'The Best of Stage and Screen' with guest artists from The McCallum Theatre's Open Call including: Javier Traviso, Cecelia Stewart and Sarah Hagar-Cox. This engaging and spectacular concert will feature favorites from the stage and screen and will be held at the Palm Springs Art Museum Annenberg Theater.

The Alley Theatre and Managing Director Dean Gladden announced today the appointment of Deborah Lackey as the new Director of Development. Lackey most recently served as the Chief Advancement Officer for the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising management with cultural, healthcare, education, and social service organizations. She assumes one of two leadership positions at the Alley along with the recent appointment of Artistic Director Rob Melrose.
