Incredible as it seems, globally renowned magicians Penn & Teller have finally got around to their first residency in London’s theatre district. Now both in their seventies, this could well be their West End debut and farewell.
xIn the city where Houdini once extricated himself from a straitjacket while dangling upside down above Times Square, it’s surprising that we don’t get major magic acts on stage more often than we do in New York. This relative paucity is thrown into relief when magic, illusion, escape and the like actually do take up residence on New York stages, as is the case right now with Lord Nil extricating himself from threat of the Seven Deadly Sins at Stage 42 while just eight blocks uptown Jamie Allan is conjuring motorcycles and reams of playing cards at New World Stages with his show Amaze.
The Empire Strips Back has docked at Hammersmith’s Riverside Studios. With over two hours of themed fun based on the original Star Wars film trilogy, it bills itself tautologically as “a burlesque parody” (the word burlesque comes from the Italian burla meaning a joke or ridicule).

Tickets are now on sale for the UK premiere of ASI WIND’S new magic show INCREDIBLY HUMAN. Previewing at the Underbelly Boulevard in Soho from 3 September, the show will run for an initial 4 month season.
