The Booth Theatre was the place to be last night, as a new kind of show improved its way to the Broadway stage. A blend of hip-hop, improvisational theater, music, and vocal stylings, Freestyle Love Supreme celebrated its opening night, joined by special guests Daveed Diggs, Wayne Brady, Christopger Jackson, James Monroe Igleheart, and of course, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

With its moniker giving a nod to John Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme,' the fast and funny improv hip-hop show created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tommy Kail and Anthony Veneziale started playing gigs around town way back during Broadway's pre-rap era, leading to an Off-Broadway production last season that has more or less transferred to the Booth Theatre.

Since creating and starring in In the Heights and Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda has become one of the most influential creators on Broadway. His work has earned him great acclaim and he's collected too many awards to count, including a Pulitzer Prize, an Emmy Award, three Grammy Awards, three Tony Awards and a Kennedy Center Honor.

Freestyle Love Supreme will play a limited 16 week run, opening on Wednesday, October 2, through Sunday, January 5, 2020.

Eclipse Theatre Company, the only Midwest theatre company to feature one playwright in one season, will conclude their 2019 Christopher Durang Season this winter with a production of Why Torture is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them, with Steve Scott directing.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, July 9 for FREESTYLE LOVE SUPREME, the highly-acclaimed improv sensation created by Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Anthony Veneziale in 2004 before In The Heights and Hamilton.
