Last night was the Los Angeles premiere of West Side Story. With music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner have adapted the iconic musical into a new motion picture. The red carpet attendees at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theater included cast members Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, Josh Andrés Rivera, Rita Moreno (also executive Producer), director/producer Steven Spielberg, producer Kristie Macosko Krieger, producer Kevin McCollum and choreographer Justin Peck.

In a new West Side Story featurette, director Steven Spielberg speaks on casting Ariana DeBose as Anita. The video also features new footage of DeBose performing 'America'. The film also stars Rachel Zegler, Ansel Elgort, David Alvarez, Rita Moreno, Brian D'Arcy James, Mike Faist, and more.

The cast of Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, including Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Rita Moreno, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez and Mike Faist, touched on the casting process, the creation of the film, and remembered the late Stephen Sondheim in the Sirius XM Town Hall interview with Jess Cagle. The 'Steven on Rachel' featurette offers a sneak peek at songs like 'I Feel Pretty,' 'A Boy Like That,' and 'Tonight' as Steven Spielberg discusses casting Rachel Zegler has Maria when she was 17 years old. Also seen is rehearsal footage featuring Ansel Elgort, Rita Moreno, Ariana DeBose, and more.

West Side Story took home the award for Best Cinematography at at the 2021 New York Film Critics Awards. Kathryn Hunter has been named Best Supporting Actress in Apple's adaption of Tragedy of Macbeth. Lady Gaga also won for for Best Actress in House of Gucci and Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Lost Daughter won Best First Film.

The West Side Story Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features 21 songs from the film. The album features performances from Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, and Rita Moreno. Directed by the Stephen Spielberg with Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner penning the film's screenplay, the film is an adaption of 1957 musical with a score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents. The cast includes Rachel Zegler, Ansel Elgort, Ariana DeBose, Rita Moreno, Mike Faist, Brian D'Arcy James, and more.

In 2020, Stephen Sondheim talked to 60 Minutes' Bill Whitaker about the different creative processes he experienced on his first Broadway musical, 'West Side Story.'
