BIO

Gary Wilmes last appeared at the Roundabout Theatre Company in the critically acclaimed production of If I Forget. Wilmes began his career in the theatre at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre where he most recently appeared in Tracy Letts's Mary Page Marlowe in a role that he recreated off-Broadway at Second Stage Theater. Other theatre credits include the Broadway production of Chinglish, the national tour of August: Osage County, and the off-Broadway productions of Straight White Men, Gatz, and Red Light Winter, for which he was the recipient of an Obie Award. Wilmes has worked for many prominent New York theatre companies including Second Stage, The Public, BAM, Vineyard Theatre, The Wooster Group, and Theatre For A New Audience. His film appearances include Detroit, The Wizard of Lies, Irrational Man, Salt, A Mighty Heart, and most recently Stephen Spielberg's The Post. Wilmes is best known to television audiences for his roles on "Billions," "Bull," "Louie," "Homeland" and "Jon Benjamin Has a Van."

Review: An Eye-Opening STRAIGHT WHITE MEN by Young Jean Lee Premieres at Tamparep

Young Jean Lee’s Straight White Men is a 2014 Dramatic Comedy that premiered off-Broadway at the Public Theatre in New York City on November 7, 2014. Directed by the playwright Lee, and featuring Austin Pendleton as “Ed”, Pete Simpson, James Stanely, and Gary Wilmes. Following its run off Broadway, the play was then produced by Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, opening in February 2017 and running until March 26, 2017. Young Jean Lee’s play made its transfer to Broadway with Previews beginning at the Hayes Theatre June 29,2018, with its official opening night on July 23. Directed by Anna D. Shapiro, and featuring a cast of Armie Hammer as Drew, Josh Charles as Jake, Paul Schneider as Matt, Kate Bornstein and Ty Defoe as “Stagehands-in-Charge,” and Stephen Payne as Ed. Both Tom Skerritt and Denis Arndt had ties to the production but left before opening and during previews.

Zhu Yi's YOU NEVER TOUCHED THE DIRT opened at The Wild Project (195 E 3rd Street) in Manhattan on June 6 as part of SUMMERWORKS, Clubbed Thumb's annual series of new plays. The limited run ends on Thursday, June 13 and due to popular demand, an additional 3:00 p.m. matinee has been added on June 13. Single tickets are on sale for $25 ($20 for students) here.
