'Put On Your Purple And Black...The National Black Theatre Festival Is Back'. Yes! Yes! Yes! The premiere 'crème de la crop' theatre festival for people of all colors is back after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. People from all over the world gather onto what is referred to as 'holy ground' in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to celebrate excellence in Black/African American Theatre. Founded by the late great, Larry Leon Hamlin, The National Black Theatre Festival (NBTF) is proud to celebrate its 33rd anniversary.

The National Black Theatre Festival kicks off today, August 1 and runs through Saturday, August 6, featuring nearly 30 live performances.

Project1VOICE-a New York-based organization dedicated to supporting theatre and the performing arts by people of African descent--is set for a virtual staged reading of Dr. Endesha Ida Mae Holland's Pulitzer Prize-nominated play, From the Mississippi Delta, on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 7PM.

The Broadway revival of Ntozake Shange's for colored girls who have considered suicide/ when the rainbow is enuf, directed and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Camille A. The Billie Holiday Theatre has announced the return of its monologue showcase series - 50in50 – with a special fifth anniversary edition of the show - 50in50: Shattering the Glass Ceiling. For this year’s show, 50 original monologues were selected from women of African descent from across the globe and will be read by 50 women actors.

The Billie Holiday Theatre presents the premiere of the original theatrical film of its critically acclaimed work 12 Angry Men...and Women: The Weight of the Wait, filmed at Apple's Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. Including select stories from the 2011 edition of the acclaimed 12 Angry Men: True Stories of Being a Black Man in America Today by The New Press and edited by Gregory S. Parks and Matthew W. Hughey, the film recounts narratives of racial profiling and unjust policing, as well as an original story that focuses on the killing of Breonna Taylor. 

4th Wall Theatre Company is presenting the virtual Houston premiere of Nassim Soleimanpour’s international theatre phenomenon WHITE RABBIT RED RABBIT. The play begins when an actor receives the script in a sealed envelope for the first time live on Zoom.

The 48th Annual Vivian Robinson AUDELCO Awards occurred virtually on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 7pm hosted by Roger Guenveur Smith, the AUDELCO award winning actor, best known for his “The Huey P. Newton Story” and as Smiley in Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing”! and LaChanze, AUDELCO award winner for “The Secret Life of Bees” and 2006 Tony award winner for “The Color Purple”.

On August 12, 1958, in the midst of this nation’s burgeoning civil rights movement, a legendary group of jazz artists gathered in Harlem to be forever captured in the iconic photo, “A Great Day in Harlem.”

The AUDELCO and Obie Award-winning Billie Holiday Theatre announced today cast details for a special edition of its breakout 50in50 monologue showcase series - 50in50: Love in the Time of Corona - with title inspiration from the classic novel Love in the Time of Cholera by Nobel prize winning Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez.

The Billie Holiday Theatre will present the third reading under its new #StayAtHome Reading Series with a special reading of James's Sheldon's Reparations, the critically acclaimed play which had its world premiere at The Billie last November.
