The curtain rises next week on Bard SummerScape's 20th anniversary season, “Breaking Ground.” Presented in New York's Hudson Valley by the Fisher Center at Bard, also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the seven-week annual arts festival opens next Friday with the world premiere of Illinois (June 23–July 2).

Jake Shears has released his new record, Last Man Dancing. The project features the new single, a brand new collaboration with Kylie Minogue (“Voices”), plus recent singles “Too Much Music” and “I Used To be In Love”. Following a recent run of support sets in the UK with Duran Duran, Shears will take Last Man Dancing on the road this summer.

The Public will premiere new musicals and plays by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz, 15-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys, Tony Award winner Itamar Moses, Emerging Writers Group alumni Mary Kathryn Nagle and Ife Olujobi, Pulitzer Prize winner and Writer-in-Residence Suzan- Lori Parks, and Jonathan Larson Grant recipient Benjamin Velez.

Seattle Theatre Group has announced its 2023/24 Performing Arts Series, a lineup of diverse and vibrant performers from around the country and world ranging from John Cameron Mitchell, the Tony Award-winning creator of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the ultimate Golden Girls tribute show with Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue, to internationally renowned contemporary dance groups including the world premiere of a new piece by dani tirrell (Black Bois), a major commission by Seattle Theatre Group. 

The record was conceived between the US, Portugal, and London (where Jake relocated from his New Orleans home during the pandemic) alongside the sort of head-turning guestlist that, in Shears’ cross-pollinating universe, also makes total sense: from Amber Martin and Boys Noize to Big Freedia, Kylie Minogue, and cameos from Jane Fonda and Iggy Pop.

Throughout an unorthodox career that has Grammy nominations and tours, Jake Shears has continued to shape-shift: he has not only written an acclaimed memoir (‘Boys Keep Swinging’) and performed on Broadway, but also recently opened a musical in London to rave reviews (Tammy Faye, written alongside Elton John and British playwright James Graham).
