Cabaret Photographers: Bobby Patrick

Bobby Patrick is not a photographer.  That is to say, they weren't a photographer - they certainly are one, now.  

Bobby came to Broadway World Cabaret as a writer, a reviewer with a very interesting point of view.  Bobby is a flamboyant, card-carrying member of our beautiful queer family and Bobby came to our team to cover all the beautiful queer artists working in cabaret and concert.  The only thing is, we were short-staffed and, before you knew it, Bobby was covering shows starring major mainstream artists, jazz performers, tap dancers, stand-up comics, and more.  And Bobby wanted to do a thorough job, so they started taking their camera to work... et voilà, nous avons un photographe.  Bobby turned themself into a right and proper photographer and discovered a talent they did not know they have.

Bobby looks for the theatrical.  Bobby makes photos that capture the experience of being in the room with the artists, pulling the lens back to show the whole room, the light fixtures, the standing ovations, the excitement of being a member of the audience.  Bobby captures that which is theatrical and that which is emotional... ok, and that which is beautiful.  Because Bobby loves theater, emotions, and beauty.  And the people love Bobby.  Bobby Patrick has, for the four years that I have sat behind the editor's desk, been the member of our Broadway World Cabaret team who gets the most fan mail - sometimes from very famous people.  They even got mentioned on the Sherri Shepherd show.  They're a force of nature and a force for good, and aren't we lucky they came along?
