BWW Feature: Theatre UCF Shines While Blurring Line Between Academic & Professional Theatre
by Matt Tamanini - October 20, 2016
Between theme parks, professional theatres, and arts organizations, Central Florida is one of the most fertile grounds for theatre artists in the country. Whether it is at Disney, Universal, Orlando Shakespeare, Mad Cow, the Orlando Rep, or any of the other wonderful organizations in town, you can find many different types of exciting theatre year-round in the City Beautiful. However, despite all of the well-known options in Orlando, one of the best-kept secrets in the community is that when it comes to consistently high quality, cutting-edge professional theatre, some of the best is at our local universities.

So, bust out your leather, fishnets, and platform boots and practice all of your favorite one-liners, because no matter where you live, there is likely a theatre company putting on a production close by. Despite the dozens, or even hundreds, of productions of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW hitting the stage this fall, it is probably safe to say that none approach the level of creativity and danger of the one playing in Orlando through Monday, October 24th. Produced by AntiGravity Orlando in conjunction with Red Fish Theatre, the production merges the sexy, campy aesthetic that ROCKY HORROR devotees have come to love with the elegant and equally sexy aerial arts.

BWW Review: Pseudonym Productions' Odd CATHARSIS Misses Haunted House Mark
by Matt Tamanini - October 18, 2016
We've all heard the phrase, 'If it was easy, then everyone would do it.' Well, that axiom is never truer than when applied to visionary artists attempting to create a new form. In the theatrical world where trial and error is built into the developmental process, invariably, you are bound to have an error. Unfortunately, thus is the case with Pseudonym Productions' latest experience, CATHARSIS.

by Kimberly Moy - October 16, 2016
Every year at the anniversary of 9/11, we stop and reflect about where we were, who was lost and the events that followed. It always catches me by surprise how much time has passed since 2001. DYING CITY is a play that follows one family's life after 9/11, but not in the way you may think. Student director, Alliyah Corley took some time to answer BroadwayWorld Orlando's questions about the show.

BWW Review: Orlando Phil's CANDIDE is Delightful Antidote for Disheartening World
by Matt Tamanini - October 14, 2016
Lately, it seems that no matter where you turn you are assaulted with frightening news, disheartening images, and arguing politicians. It's gotten so upsetting that no one would fault you for thinking that this is the worst of all possible worlds. However, if you are tired of thinking the worst of society and your fellow man, there is no better antidote than the Orlando Philharmonic's joyous and playful production of Leonard Bernstein's light opera CANDIDE, running through Sunday, October 16th at Plaza Live Orlando.

BWW Review: The Intimate DRACULA at Carmine Boutique Provides Powerful, Personal Thrills
by Matt Tamanini - October 12, 2016
'Blood is too precious a thing to be spilled,' the titular character says in the production of DRACULA playing at Carmine Boutique in Orlando through October 15th. Directed by Jeremy Seghers, this ensemble piece by playwright Steven Dietz brings to life Bram Stoker's classic characters with intimate specificity that brings the story's inherent horror home in ways far more personal than in most films and adaptations of the same source material. While the production includes a requisite level of blood, the most haunting terrors that it supplies are born not of traditional Halloween fear, but of the strains on the relationships between the characters and the people that they hold most dear.
