Open Auditions for Thornton Wilder's play Our Town - March 2026 at Gainesville Community Playhouse

Thornton Wilder's Our Town is one of the most beloved plays in the American canon — a quiet, profound meditation on the beauty hidden inside everyday life. This spring, the Gainesville Community Playhouse is bringing it to our stage, and we're looking for the people who will bring it to life. Auditions on 3/22 and 3/23 are open to the entire community. No experience is needed — just a willingness to listen, connect, and show up honestly. We're casting approximately 17 roles for men, women, and children ages 9 and up, and we'd love to see a wide range of our community represented on stage. Performances run May 22 through June 7, 2026. Night 1: Sunday, March 22, 6:30–9:30 PM;

Night 2: Monday, March 23, 6:30–9:30 PM (new auditioners beginning at 6:30 pm; callbacks beginning at 8)

Early Auditions Encouraged: We will begin casting on Night 1. While we welcome auditions on both dates, we encourage performers to attend Night 1 or submit paperwork online in advance, or by Sunday evening (3/22), for those unable to attend Night 1 auditions.

6:45–6:55: Welcome and overview of the night; distribute cold reads.

A parent or guardian should accompany any children. 6:55–9:30 Cold reads and children’s audition. Children will be dismissed no later than 8:00 pm.

9:30 → Auditioners needed for call-backs on Monday night will be notified by the production team. PLEASE NOTE: Callbacks will be used selectively to explore chemistry between specific actors or finalize certain roles. If you are not called back, it does not mean you are not being considered—many casting decisions will (we’re serious) be made from first auditions alone.
