Galli's Fairytale Theater Presents Cinderella 11/27-28
By: Gabrielle Sierra Nov. 23, 2010
Galli's Fairytale Theater will enchant young audiences with the beloved fairy tale Cinderella for the last time this year on Thanksgiving weekend. The play, for kids from 3 and up, starts at 3 p.m. in Galli's Theater at 38 W. 38 Street, Manhattan. The show is followed by a one-hour after-show workshop for kids.
Galli's Cinderella is an uplifting remake of the original Grimm story about a pure-hearted girl who loses her mother but finds her prince. Underlying this story of overcoming hardships and finding love, there is the concept of bullying. Cinderella is constantly ridiculed and bullied, just as many children are today. But in the world of theater and the Galli method of acting, this may not be such a horrible thing. The theater group invites kids to join the after-show workshop where they are encouraged to act out their favorite fairy tale character and dress up in costumes. "This allows them to unleash emotions they may not otherwise be able to express during their normal lives. If a person who was bullied constantly throughout their life is given the chance to play the part of one who is doing the bullying, the person will be able to unleash emotions they had always been afraid to express," said Dr. Tatjana Maya, Director of Galli Theater in New York. The workshop is followed by a performance for the adults.Show times: November 27, and 28 - at 3 p.m. Admission: Adults $20; Kids (2-17 years) $15
One hour after-show workshop: November 27, and 28 - at 3 p.m. Workshop admission: $15, $10 for siblings.
