Each night after their first six performances, the cast members of RENT made their way to the Palace Theatre lobby wielding red buckets and red ribbons to raise nearly $3,000 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids (BC/EFA), an organization which helps people all over the country living with HIV/AIDS. After heartfelt performances in the award-winning rock opera, RENT, the entire cast moved to the Palace Theatre lobby to greet audience members and accept donations.
Artistic Director Carl Rajotte anticipated the production would draw a fresh, younger audience to the Palace, but never expected such an encouraging response from such a diverse crowd. "I am overjoyed at the audience's powerful response to our production and am overwhelmed by their generosity not only with their donations, but also with their extraordinarily motivating feedback to the cast each night," said Rajotte.
If you haven't seen RENT yet, there is still time to donate to BC/EFA and see this inspiring story about friends and a community of young artists living together as they struggle through life in the East Village of New York City, RENT tackles addiction, poverty, AIDS - and most of all, love.
