- June 23, 2016 This Asahi Shimbun Display Made in Japan: Kakiemon and 400 years of porcelain celebrates fifteen generations of porcelain production in Arita by showcasing work by one of the most famous potting dynasties. This year is the 400th anniversary of the birth of porcelain in the town of Arita in Saga Prefecture and the show will feature, among other examples, a new work decorated with acorn branches by Sakaida Kakiemon XV (b.1968) representing his coming of age as an artist that he created specifically for the British Museum. Featured in the display is an original film made by the British Museum at the Kakiemon kiln, which allows viewers to see and feel through the actions of the potters how Kakiemon porcelain is actually created.

building to a jointly-organized exhibition scheduled for
summer 2017. With the research process by which
"SEA PROJECT" conducts its studies considered an
important element, the project website has been launched. There will also be some pre-exhibition events continuously taking place for the purpose of sharing this process with the public from an early stage. We are pleased to announce that, as the first edition of such events, Symposium entitled "How Has Japan Engaged with Contemporary Art in Southeast Asia?" is to be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016.

- January 25, 2016 The Japanese premiere of Wuthering Heights, a musical adaptation of the classic Emily Bronte novel, opens today (February 2nd) in Kyoto. A poster for the show is shown here. The show is the only stage adaptation of Wuthering Heights that has received an endorsement from the Bronte Society, while Herbert Kretzmer (lyricist for the phenomenally successful Les Miserables) has described it as a 'great show', with music that has 'the breadth and sweep of a great novel and a romantic intensity not heard for many generations'. The novel is one of the most popular English novels in Japan.

- August 20, 2015 A Matter of Softness, a solo exhibition by Japan-based artist and researcher Juan M. Castro, will open at the University City Science Center's Esther Klein Gallery (EKG) on August 26, 2015 and run through September 23rd. An opening reception will be held at EKG on Wednesday, August 26th from 5:00-7:30pm, with a live demonstration by the artist on visualizing artificial membranes grown in vitro using a fluorescence microscope. An Artist Talk will take place on Thursday, August 27th from 12-1pm at Quorum, 3711 Market Street, 8th Floor.
