Seeking
Actors for San Diego Musical Theatre's production of Cats.

Preparation
Bring jazz & tap shoes (small tap combo/not all roles tap) wear clothes you can really move in & not hide your body. Dancers prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song (may sing from show), singers prepare 1 minute of song showing range/character. Bring 2 headshots/resumes & sheet music.

Breakdown

Bombalurina - “The Bombshell”. Strong high belt. Sings “Macavity”. Must dance well. Triple threat.

Bustopher Jones/Gus/Growltiger – “Opera, Theatrical Cat”. Strong tenor. Transforms from elderly to young actor/opera singer in his prime. Dance not necessary but must move.

Demeter – Sings “Macavity” with Bombalurina. Strong high belt. Average to tall. Excellent dancer. Triple threat.

Grizabella – “The Glamour Cat”. Sings “Memory”. Strong Belt up to E flat. Should be able to play 40’s but all age ranges are encouraged to audition. Dance not necessary, buy must move.

Jellylorum/Griddlebone – “The Opera Cat”. Wide range soprano, low G# to High C. Dance a plus, but not necessary. Must move well. Age range 20’s to 40’s.

Jennyanydots – “The Gumby Cat”. Character actress who taps and moves well. All body types, 30’s to 40’s. Soprano.

Munkastrap – “Narrator”. Commanding presence. Average height to tall. Baritone with two octave range up to G. Must move well. Dance a plus.

Old Deuteronomy – Regal, gentle, large, robust man. Strong Baritone with a two octave range up to G.

Rum Tum Tugger – “Rock n Roll Cat”. All types from young Elvis to David Lee Roth to Freddy Mercury, etc. Must move well. Bring rock song to audition.

Skimbleshanks – “The Railway Cat”. Quirky character actor plus singer/dancer. Physical comedy a plus. Tenor. Triple threat.



MALE & FEMALE DANCERS WHO SING:

Alonzo – Strong, sensual Tomcat. Tall, excellent dancer who sings. Good with lifts.

Cassandra – The striking Abyssinian or Siamese Cat. Long, sleek and proud. Excellent dancer with beautiful lithe body. Tall. Singing a plus but not necessary.

Coricopat – Tantomile’s Male Twin. Excellent dancer who sings.

Mistoffelees – The magical, conjuring Cat. Outstanding male dancer with strong ballet. Must have excellent solid turns. Short to average height. Young and playful. Singing a plus but not necessary.

Mungojerrie – Lovable juvenile delinquent Cat. Excellent dancer/singer with lots of energy. Physical comedy a plus. Triple threat.

Plato/Macavity – Tall, strong, sexy and athletic. Excellent dancer who is good with lifts. Tumbling a plus.

Pouncival – The innocent but playful young male kitten. Short, excellent dancer. Understudy to Mistofelees.

Rumpleteazer – Mungojerie’s partner in crime. Dancer/singer.

Sillabub – Precious young female kitten. Petite dancer/singer. Soprano

Tantomile – Coricopats femaile twin. Exccellent dancer sho sings.

Tumblebrutus – Excellent male dancer who sings. Great lifter and tumbler.

Victoria – The white Cat. Petite female dancer with excellent ballet and strong/high develope. Should be able to play a combination of young and sexy. Singing a plus but not necessary.
