Equity actors for roles in Pioneer Theatre Company's 2026-27 Season. See breakdown for production-specific dates. Pioneer Theatre Company is seeking all races, ethnicities, body types, gender identities, actors with disabilities, and actors of all ages for roles in this season. Rehearsals and performances will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah. Some roles will be understudied. EPA Procedures are in effect for this audition.

PREPARATION
Please prepare either two brief contrasting monologues or a short cut of a song in the style of our season. For both plays and musicals consideration, please prepare one brief monologue and a brief musical selection that shows range. You are welcome to sing from one of the shows. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music properly marked and in the correct key. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.
Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions. An Equity Monitor will be provided.

Breakdown
In reference to the character descriptions below — most characters are written with man/woman, he/him, or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. However, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.

CARTER SMITH (Male identifying, mid-30s, White): A former golden boy, smart and sensitive. Now he’s a great teacher: charming, engaging, goofy.
SHELBY HOLCOMB (Female identifying, 18+ to portray 16, Any race): A student whose brain works faster than her mouth, but her mouth works pretty fast. People have always underestimated her.
BETH POWELL (Female identifying, 18+ to portray 17, Any race): A student — nervous, ambitious, enthusiastic. Kind of like if Rory Gilmore and Paris Geller had a baby and raised her in the Deep South.
NELL SHAW (Female identifying, 18+ to portray 16, Black): A student from Atlanta — grounded, sincere, and genuinely curious. A good judge of character and a quick study.
IVY WATKINS (Female identifying, 18+ to portray 17, Any race): A student — fiercely loyal and always well-intentioned. From old Southern money — resist the urge to play her as a mean girl.
RAELYNN NIX (Female identifying, 18+ to portray 16, Any race): A student — cheerleader type who’s always lived her life by other peoples’ standards. She was paying careful attention and keeping score the whole time.
MASON ADAMS (Male identifying, 18+ to portray 17, Person of color): A student. He’s never really tried before, and he’s surprised by how good it feels — earnest and affable.
LEE TURNER (Male identifying, 18+ to portray 16, White): A Carhartt-wearing good ol’ boy — deeply insecure and without the tools to deal with it. He’s always been good at getting what he wants.
BAILEY GALLAGHER (Female identifying, 24, Any race): A counselor — sweet in all the ways Southern women are supposed to be. This is her first real job out of college. She’s trying her best.

AUDREY (Female identifying, 25–35): Bleached-blond, Billie-Dawn-like, Seymour's secret love. Vulnerable and sweet with poor self-worth. Vocal range: top D5, bottom G#3.
MR. MUSHNIK (Male identifying, 55–65): Owner of the failing East Side flower shop; profit-driven, greedy, manipulative. Vocal range: top F4, bottom G2.
ORIN SCRIVELLO (Male identifying, 30–40): An egotistical dentist with sadistic tendencies — Audrey's abusive boyfriend. Vocal range: top G4, bottom G2.

SHERIDAN WHITESIDE (Male identifying, 40s–60s): Acerbic, high-energy, high-maintenance radio personality who dominates the Stanley household. Bombastic but charming; unpredictable.
MAGGIE CUTLER (Female identifying, 30s–40s): Efficient, smart assistant to Sheridan. Playful working relationship with Sheridan; restless and eager for romance.
LORRAINE SHELDON / MRS. DEXTER (Female identifying, 30s–50s): Lorraine is a glamorous stage actress who will do anything for a part; Mrs. Dexter is Mrs. McCutcheon’s friend and sidekick.
BERT JEFFERSON (Male identifying, late 20s–early 40s): Earnest, ambitious local reporter eager to interview Sheridan. Warm and charming.
MRS. DAISY STANLEY (Female identifying, 50s): Traditional, socially-ambitious housewife of the late 1930s, juggling family and Sheridan’s chaos.

BANJO / PROF. METZ (Male identifying, 30s–50s): Banjo is a Hollywood comedian; Prof. Metz is the world’s greatest authority on insect life — mad scientist demeanor.
DR. BRADLEY (Male identifying, 50–60s): Benign, somewhat daft local doctor who dreams of publishing his memoirs.
JOHN (Male identifying, age flexible): Head butler of the Stanley household; runs a tight ship.
SARAH (Female identifying, age flexible): The house chef — exacting, diligent, and taken by Sheridan.

SUZANNE (Female identifying, mid-50s, White): Warm and gracious; devoted to family and the school. Once worked part-time as a life coach. Mother of Sebastian, Arlo, Izzy, Juniper, Tompkins, and Walden.
CARINA (Female identifying, early 40s, Black or biracial): A joiner; grew up overseas; skilled at landing in new environments. Wife is from Berkeley; recently moved back from the East Coast. Mother of Victor; experienced with nonprofit board meetings.
MEIKO (Female identifying, mid-30s, Biracial Japanese/White — describes herself as Hapa): Berkeley native with a wry sense of humor; landscape architect and single mother by choice to Olivia.
ELI (Male identifying, mid-30s, White, Jewish or half-Jewish): Oblivious but well-meaning; went to Stanford and worked at a tech start-up. Expert pickler and competitive rock climber. Father of Tobias.
